Vista MC can't see my analogue tuner

G'day

I'm trying to get Optus TV up and running on my MC but I've run into a glitch, I'm running the K-World PE-310 Hybrid card on Vista home premium. I have read all the guides to doing this especially Tigger's

When I try to scan for channels MC does not tell me that I have a analogue card, it only shows me 2 digital tuners to setup.

I then tried using the software that came with the tuner, I could not scan for analogue channels but I was able to see the Optus by switching the input to AV in. It's like switching between AV inputs on your TV.

I really do not know how to go about fixing this. Am I using the wrong card? Or does Vista not support analogue tuners?

Any help will be greatly appreciated....

Better start here: Get Most Cards To Work In Mce

Re: Vista MC can't see my analogue tuner

Great stuff, much appreciated.

I ended up buying a Hauppauhe HVR-1300 and it works fine in VMC except the PQ isn't all that good, I've applied the registry settings for noise reduction but didn't get a great improvement.

I will try that MCE plug-in for the Kworld and see if it works. The PQ inside the Kworld software for foxtel was probable better than having the STB connected straight to the TV.

So this plug in will probable make my VMC see the analoge card? Or is it just a bunch of encoders?

Re: Vista MC can't see my analogue tuner

I'm not really sure about all the hacks and encoders as I don't run Foxtel through MCE, but I think you can change the encoding bit-rate for Foxtel capture.

If you haven't already, have a look at these threads - should be the same for Vista:

Poor Quality Live TV/Recorded TV

Disappointing capture quality with Hauppauge HVR-1300

Is he joking or not?

The last one is about increasing the bit-rate.

I'll give that bit rate hack a go when i get home tonight, I'll post my results on here. I hope it works out well....

Thanks for your help.

Re: Vista MC can't see my analogue tuner

Ok, I've tried it out and that file I downloaded from the "Get Most Cards To Work In Mce" thread works just fine with the K-World tuner, the picture with it is way better than the Hauppauge 1300, its nearly perfect with just some colour loss, but I can live with that. I'm thinking the built in encoder of the Kworld is much better than Hauppauge. I did try the other things you mentioned such as increasing bit rate but it did not help at all.

If only we have something on this website, like a FAQ to help you achieve the best capture quality with Media Centre, such as tips ot tweaks for Media centre and not the cards. I will go googling and if I find anything I'll post it here for others to use.

Cheers.

Re: Vista MC can't see my analogue tuner

I think with the K-world that you're using a software encoder, so there's probably more you can change.

Unfortunately, it isn't a one size fits all as different cards work different ways, so it's difficult to set a single how tto giude.
