s-video vs composite

I just bought a WinTV-150 tuner to test a few things out before buying the rest of the hardware.

I have Foxtel and used scart to composite to get live tv. Picture is watchable but not as good as on my old CRT.

I know s-video provides better picture but what sort of improvement am I looking at?
It's the weekend and haven't had a chance to buy a scart to svideo cable.

I'm testing this on my current 19" LCD but plan on buying the Samsung 26" (beautiful tv )

The improvement is very noticeable, SVHS is sharper and has better colour definition, getting a decent SVHS cable can also improve things a bit.

Get a SCART adaptor that has composite, SVHS and audio outs, and a seperate SVHS cable.

Set the Foxtel box to SVHS out as well. Enjoy.

Cheers

Why do I need all those connections??

Isn't scart/svideo enough??

Re: s-video vs composite

Ignore that question

If I use an adaptor will I loose any picture quality?

I really don't want to go the adaptop way, I have too many cables and adaptors as it is The aim is to reduce it hehe

Depends on the quality of the adaptor and the cable. But a fixed SCART to SVHS cable (as long as it includes red and white audio connectors) will be fine too. Just try and pay a bit more for something half decent, it's subtle, but the difference is there.

Cheers

Re: s-video vs composite

For some reason I'm having a hard time finding quality SCART to S-Video.
The SCART/Svideo Foxtel offers looks decent but can't find a place that sells it.

Re: s-video vs composite

Doesn't surprise me, not a common cable. An adaptor and cable would do the same job and not be any more cluttered at all.

Re: s-video vs composite

Thanks Matt,

yep that adaptor looks good, not so sure about the cable though, for $9.99, the term that comes to mind is 'wet piece of string'

Given how average Foxtel PQ is, do it a favour and at least get a half decent SVHS cable....

Cheers

Re: s-video vs composite

Once I get around doing this, I'll contact Foxtel and see if they can send me a pair
