Looking at adding paytv to my machine at the moment and it seems there are hacks to get a satellite card to work in MCE.
Looking at Twinhan Sat CI already got a cam so if it all sounds good will purchase this card.
There doesn't appear to be a lot of detail on how well the hacks work for people.
I would love to know how well the EPG works and whether you can still have DTV with a sat card installed and how they all go together (ie conflicts with different type or tuner)
Most of the stuff here is using outputs from FOX boxes which I dont really want.
A lot of what I have read is not from anyone who is actually using this setup.
I would prefer to use Vista and hope the hacks will work in Vista if anyone knows.
The Twinhan has DVB-T emulation drivers, which "fools" vmce into thinking it is a dvb-t card. I am actually setting one up for a customer with austar. It appears tho that the CAM for card Irdeto 2.26 may be a bit flakey as you have to insert the cam when the software boots, am speaking to twinhan about it. (if they ever get back to me)
For Austar need to set the satellite software for the Optus C1 satellite, LNB = 10700, set the scan to 12305/30000 H. Go into VMCE setup for Digital TV and scan for channels.
I also believe the Twinhan Sat-CI works with Mythtv
I am also going to be testing the unit with a DVB-T card installed and will let you know how it goes.
The EPG with Austar or SelecTV cant be used, so you will need Either Oztivo (not really acurate), or Shepherd (linux only) and Tvxb,Bladerunner, IIS (two computers), results are worth it as the guide data is extremely acurate.
Shepherd isnt hard, but it does take a long time to aquire data. Basically you will need an Ubuntu pc(or equiv) and a Vista Box or Windows Server 2003, ón the ubuntu box follow the shepherd installation page, setup the directory as a samba share, use tvxb to copy the output.xml to /bladerunner/guidedata as xmltv.xml (this removes the doctype in output.xml) as with the IIS setup follow this thread: I Have a working Vista/BRP/EPG system!!
It is worth it in the end as Guide data for the current day is accurate down to the minute. Set shepherd to download daily after 4am, it it wont miss a beat all this can be automated.
Will post tomorrow how I went with the additional DVB-T card.
Just a bit of an update, 1.0.1.3 drivers for the twinhan scan correctly, picks up the channels in mce but then cause the system to crash (BSOD). updating to the 1.0.5.1 drivers results in no channels being picked up. wtf!? the CAM still has to be plugged in after the system boots
Has anyone actually got select tv and the twinhan card working?
I'm keen on signing up with select tv if I can get it working on my VMC. What would be great as well is to get a working EPG for select tv in VMC *drool*
I got no response from twinhan as usual, am thinking of purchasing a technotrend to try out. I think the problem with the twinhan is related to the cam am using a 2.06 cam. the later versions should work eg. purple cam.
the EPG is easy, but you will need a linux virtual machine or spare server. and IIS
