Unhappy No Sound only when in Live TV

Hi Guys,

Just wondering if anyone has come across an issue like the one i'm experiencing.

Running MCE 2005 with a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-1300 MCE and a Chaintech AV710.

Have followed TiggerK's Foxtel guide and have foxtel setup and displaying via component input.

My problem is in Live TV, I have a crystal clear image and no sound whatsoever. I have sound in every other area of MCE and have the latest drivers installed for all my hardware.

Running red and whites from Scart on Foxtel STB directly to the red and white audio inputs on the Hauppauge card. I've also tried running the audio cables via a connector into the 3.5mm line in on the Chaintech sound card and still nada.

I googled around and saw mention it could be the decoder installed on my system, however after installing (and selecting) both powerdvd 7's decoder AND Nvidia's decoder, neither of these solved the issue.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this issue? It's the final area on my MCE to-do list and its driving me a little mental

Thanks.

Re: No Sound only when in Live TV

I guess its safe to say that out of the 77 other people who've viewed this, nobody has a clue...

Ahh well, I'll keep searching elsewhere.

Its a sad state when even people who facade as wanting to help others completely ignore pm's and go about their fairytale presence...

I understand how you feel...I had to create and answer my own thread over the weekend. I also understand that a lot of people are after help for themselves and often can't get to a thread as quickly as we'd like or they simply don't know (Vary rare here). Unfortunately, patience is a virtue when working with pc's and waiting for the right response on these forums.

I like many on here have extended virtue in this case given we're dealing with Microsoft for our source of entertainment.

As for waiting for the "right" response, I would have been happy to get someone chime in with ANY feedback, suggestion or answer. Even the "helpful" *cough* person I private messaged, if he had no clue (which perhaps is the case given his complete avoidance of a simple reply), then how hard is it to say so?

I wasnt like the other fellow on here who posted a request for help and then after two days went off like a nutcracker. I left my post for a several weeks whilst I continued to nut it out. I think i've demonstrated patience.

Alas, when patience and feedback are something that is not infinite, one must wrap frustrations up and seek a useful source for help. Maybe just maybe, I've scratched the surface of something you say is very rare here... hell, it happens... would it be the end of the world if someone actually said "sorry pal, I've got no ideas."?

OK I'll be guy who says for all of us I've got no ideas.

From what I've seen there are only a handful of people running analog inputs in MCE or Vista.

Having watched around here for a while a couple of possibilities to throw around.
Can you get the inputs to work in other software?
Can you check that the outputs from the STB and see that they are working. ie directly to the audio inputs of the TV?
I'm not 100% sure but you may want to look around for Encoders (rather than decoders) unless the card does hardware encoding you'll need to get the data into an mpeg form so that MCE can play with it. From memory Renura had a post about configuring the cards he sells - may point you in the right direction.
You might also want to look at options like treating all audio inputs as a single device?
Failing all that then get the video running then fire up graphedit and see what the directx subsytem is doing. - might give you a starting point for identifying what is being used under the covers.

David.

There were some fairly open ended suggestions above. Can you give a hint as to what happened in the different cases.

Also if you can post a screen capture from the graphedit?

David.

Yes, the inputs work fine in the other non-mce software I've used.

Yes, this was checked and sounds coming through just fine.

I've looked into the PowerDVD/NVidia options, both of which were to no avail.

Do you mean run the audio input to my sound card instead of the 1300?

David.
When I get some time (perhaps this weekend), I'll run it through the ringer and see where it gets to.

Re: No Sound only when in Live TV

I has having a similar problem tonight. I had sound on some TV channels but not on others.
I hadn't watched TV since a recent reinstall but the wife was complaining that there was no sound on some channels. DVD's played okay, music played okay but only some TV channels had sound.

After reading lots of potentially useful stuff () I narrowed the problem down to channels broadcasting in AC3 audio. Some do and some don't. I uninstalled the version of FFDshow I had - version 610 - and put in the latest version 1431. I now get sound on all HD channels.

Hope this helps - I know its not the exact problem you have
