I have been running my vmc (in sig) for a while now without issues for digital tv.
I bought a separate pci analogue card to capture foxtel now - and i am in no need to integrate it with VMC AT ALL. Hence, I simply want to be able to go into Vista (not MC) when necessary to do my foxtel caps.
The question is how to set it all up - i've got scart to composite connections coming out of the foxtel box, so i connected the tuner's adaptor to one of them and connected that to the analogue tuner.
So what setting is needed for the foxtel picture settings - its currently YUV - do I need to change this to s-video ? If so, does that mean each time i need to use it in Vista i have to change this setting, because when i change the setting to anything other than YUV i lose the foxtel picture entirely.
Anyways, i did test it by setting it to s-video but when i went into the tuners capture software, the picture was green and fuzzy, so i'm a bit confused - your help much appreciated.

I found on my system that if you have a scart to composite, you need to set the Foxtel STB to PAL.
Set it to each different setting blindly then cycled through each source in winfast dtv s/w and nothing. The only picture i get - the green/blurred one is when i select an input source called "CVBS" - and i have no idea what that is.
When i set foxtel stb to pal or s-video, try the s-video input source in the s/w and no picture at all ...
Is there any other software i can use that might give me more of an idea of whats going on ?
apologies for a bunch of posts - but i have video now ! Dont know what i did but after fiddling with settings it ended up giving me a decent picture - and the foxtel stb stays on YUV.
BUT, now i cant figure out why i dont have audio ?? Isn't the adaptor cable they give you - with red, white, yellow, for audio aswell ? I have none !
I notice with the card, it came with one of those little audio cables that connect to connectors on the mboard , but i cant find an appropriate connector on my board, and it doesnt make sense anyway - i'm sure plugging in the red/white rca cables into the adaptor would carry the audio ??
Edit; i do notice in the s/w config, there is no "analog audio device" to select - ie, nothing in there at all ... ?
I just installed a Snazzi* V DVD Pro Elite Edition SN7800 into my HTPC, the drivers were a bit of a problem in Vista but after about 15min the Card was up and running with no problems.
Anyway the reason I am mentioning this Card is because it comes with RGB (Y,Cb,Cr) Inputs on it so my Decoder is set to YUV all the time now, just done a quick Capture test using the Software that came with the Card and the quality is great, so this card may be a option for you, its not a cheap card though, mine cost me just over AU$300 but from what I have seen it do so far its worth it, the video format I captured in was MPEG2 and it does play back through Media Centre.
I am going to post another Thread about it in here as Media Centre Can see the Card and tries to Configure it however with Media Centre being way behind the times as usuall there is no support for Capturing RGB in VMC which is a real problem, the Card comes with Composite & S-VIDEO Inputs also which is a bonus but this will put me in the same area as you having to change the Decoder's Video Output every time I want to Capture Video.
Anyway check out this Card as I think it will be able to help you out if you want to Capture video with the bundled Software. Oh and one other thing this Cards Software comes with a streaming function so I imagine someone could make a 3rd Party Application (Plugin) so VMC could Catch the stream, I can see this card being a winner with NDS users, but it may be a bit to expensive for all to take the plunge at the moment.

arnee,
Two possible problems.
1) No audio out from STB
2) No audio into MCE
Can you test to see if you have an audio signal on the White / Red outputs from the STB by plugging them into the AV inputs of something like your amplifier? AT least then you will know which side of things to be working on.

I have the same setup. Analogue TV card in my Vista system. I have no interest in FTA just the Foxtel connectivity, but with the current lack of any real working guide (I have no interest in druidic spells and hacking of reg files and Christ knows what else just to have a guide in Vista). My Foxtel image displays when I have it set to composite1 as this is what is generally (actually with everything I've ever connected my TV card to - MCE2005, XP Pro, Vista and Linux) its always been composite.
