select TV with a Sat card and media center

Just wondering if this http://www.digitalnow.com.au/product.../QuattroS.html card and a Smark card reader you will be able to watch select TV on your windows media center PC as well as on your windows media center extenders?

unlike foxtel that uses an unsupported encryption for it's sat tv and media center

Re: select TV with a Sat card and media center

I dont believe you can get a 'smart card reader' to work with that card. I am sure the Qattro is only for FTA Satellite - which in our region means bugger all... Or almost - think you can get a dozen christian tv channels and a shopping channel or so, and a couple of non english channels - and then your going to need several dishes to be set up because they dont all get beamed from the one satellite !!!

Your smart card reader is what you need and its known as a CAM - Common Access Module and with that you can get Irdeto encryption working, and with that you can of course get Selectv working...

You need to find a dvb-s card that supports cams, like the technotrend one... and a couple of others.

Stay tuned from me regarding a write up on how to do all this.... had to do something new!

Impact is right, the Quattro card is FTA only.
You can go for either the twinhan ci that digitalnow sells or the technotrend cards that I distribute.
Keep in mind as well that you need the latest delta/selectv compatible irdeto 2 CAM module.

In order to make things easier we offer the card+ the irdeto cam together. Shoot me a PM or an email for a good discount

Re: select TV with a Sat card and media center

I dont know what clarity you need ?

a DVB-S card will work in Vista / MCE if you can fool MCE in thinking that it is actually a DVB-T card - fortunately there are hacks around for this originating from Europe.

There are two types of DVB-S cards, those that can support encryption (pay tv) and those that can not (FTA Free To Air).

For a pay tv service, it is encrypted - so you need a DVB-S card that supports this. The only two available are the twinhain and technotrend. They allow you to plug in a CAM for specific types of encrypted services.

Foxtel Satellite uses an encryption method that you can not buy a proper CAM for... So simply your out of luck !

Irdeto encryption is used by Austar and Selectv - and you can buy an Irdeto CAM, so your set - its possible to do it with these two services.

The rest is all about setting up those hacks and using the service..

Yep - you need to purchase an Irdeto Cam to plug into that card, and then you can plug your Selectv card into that cam...

Twinhan even sort of support it (presume they've just packaged up the Euro hacks). Go to the utilities section.

You could also use it with Aurora (sort of FTA) satellite TV. You can only get Aurora if you're in a blackspot without commercial FTA broadcasters (it requires a one off payment to purchase Irdeto 2 smart card).

I think it's still a 4:3 only service.

I think you can also get the ABC & SBS digital services from Optus D1 FTA (no smart card).
