Where is XBMC development up to guys? Is it now working with 360? and is it a valid alternativein its current state? If so I am jumping in...but really depends on ease of use and media types supported.

Can you tell me why you're compiling from source code?

Ummm no, can't really say. Kinda following the first set of instructions I could find... Was obscenely tired last night and it was a half-a$$ed effort at googling for some good instructions.

Hi Warren,
XBMC will never run on the 360. It's a closed box and that is part of the reason why all the ports for Linux,OSX and windows now exist.
The eventual aim is to find a replacement hardware devices that will run the code well and to fully support that but I don't think anyone knows what that devices is yet.
It could potentially be the PS3 but at the moment not enough is known about the GPU and cell processors and much of the required functionality is intentionally locked away by Sony (when using Linux on the PS3).
I'd suggest you give it a try. It's very stable under Linux or OSX as of right now and the interface and general feel is awsome. It's very feature complete and will soon act as a frontenf for LiveTV recorders such as mythTV/,mediaportal etc.
As a video/music/photo player it's perfectly capable already even though the ports have been developed for a shot time.
There are still some bugs but the XBMC team are in feature freeze at the moment in order to squash bugs and get to the next stable release across all platforms.
Right now is when they need people like us, downloading, testing and reporting bugs. If you want it perfect, you can help make it that way. Unlike "other" mediacenter manufacturers, reporting bugs to the XBMC devs will have the end result of bettering the system!
Cheers,
Arkay

Thanks for the help lads, I've now got XBMC installed and it looks rather nice (pity about no live tv though).
I skipped ahead a bit though, I haven't setup my media library yet. How do I do this? Do I need install MySQL separately and then configure it? Or did it come installed with Mythbuntu and I just need to point it to the correct folders?
In the Mythtv setup there is storage directories, but are they primarily for livetv recordings?
I am googling to try and find out for myself, but chances are I won't be googling for the right thing...
Cheers,
Luke
PS. Took Mrs Birdie to Hardly Normal today to show her the Panasonic PZ800 50" plasma today. I've been given the green light for an upgrade for xmas - the only thing I have to decide between now and then is whether I wait for the 58" to be released. I'll be a really happy man if I have mastered Mythtv by the time the telly arrives!
