What Linux video encoder to use?

Under my previous windows installation i would copy a dvd to my hard drive, and then compress to avi with auto gk.

now that i am using Ubuntu, i am looking for a program that can replace auto gk - preferably something that isn't from the command line.

anyone have any suggestions?

thanks in advance

I use dvd::rip and k9copy. MythTV also has a DVD rip plugin.
NB: These are in the standard repository, AFAIK.

Don't forget medibuntu

cheers

Re: What Linux video encoder to use?

Avidemux is also great video tool. Easy to use and does h.264. Can make really good use of a quad core cpu too. Has encoding profiles for ipod and psp also from memory. I'm sure it'll do direct from DVD conversion if you have dvddecss installed. Worth checking out at any rate.

Cheers,

Arkay.
