Nothing better to do today than installing Mythbuntu. I decided to upgrade from an exisisting Ubuntu installation. After the initial confusion I had it up and working in no time. TV and Guide. This was until I plugged in the MCE remote control and pressed "enter" on "watch tv". The Mythtv screen set itself back to the black Mythbuntu screen instead of playing live tv. After I have tried almost everything to make live tv working again but with no luck. Every time I press watch tv it resets to the black Mythbuntu screen. Anyone?
Anyway. While I had it working I wasn´t too impressed at all. Lots of artwork, 1001 plugins etc...but when it comes to the crunch, in this case being able to watch HDTV on a 2.66.ghz Celeron, it turned out too much of a system hog. Digital no problem.

Probably needs a bit more grunt if running a combined backend/ frontend. See my specs below; no hassles at all when all three tuners are working, watching HD on one.

Backend: Mythbuntu 8.1- ASUS M3A, AMD AM2 4800+, 2G RAM, 4T HDDs, NVIDIA 8500GT, Ultraview Plus, Dvico Fusion 4, Hauppage NOVA T-500, Sound by BOSE, Giant TVs by Phillips & LG, plus a flock of Frontends all over the house; WAF = 4.5/5
You'll be glad to know I installed a second antenna in the roof near the office on Thursday.. Still configuring. Have Myth installed under Arch Linux. 3 tuners in the box but I can't get SBS on two of them. Don't know what the problem is there yet. Appears to be the two Asus tiger tuners themselves. Signal stength is another issue.
Without a splitter andconnected to my DVICO DVBT-1 I can't pick anything up. With a 4 way splitter it gets all stations. Must be too strong a signal.
What tuners are you running in yours? I think I'm going to have to pull the Twinhans out of my VMC rig to user with the DVICO... Shoulda never sold my Nova T 500 dual.

Re SBS, I had to set the transponder frequency manually and then scan it specifically. Same with WIN where I am (Knights Hill, Illawarra transmitter).
Regarding overstrong signal, there is a discussion thread bout this somewhere; when I had two tuners (XP MCE) I got stutters. Plugged a third tuner in, all good. FWIW, I was in JAYCAR the other day and so that they had signal splitters with attentuation.

Hehe... Notepad might be a bit of a strain on that CPU too
Hmm. This cpu pulls VMCE with no problems.
I could have lived without HDTV since I have more than enough rigs and no tv shows to be recorded. Will try again with a dedicated live cd/partition. Do not know why plugging the mce remote in caused the problems.

I'm enclined to say it was conincidental. There should be no reason why lirc or how lirc could effect liveTV in myth.

Was going to try that next though the DVICO picks up SBS directly using the Australian frequency table so the other cards should too. I've never used these cards in a machine before so it could be them that have a strange idiosyncrasy.
Either way I'll get at least 3 tuners working in myth very shortly.
