Media Portal Help

Howdy

Peeps well, I am still running vista on my main machine, i have however set up a test box as i am getting abit sick of how long it takes for things to load off my network shares.

Installed Tiny XP Rev 9 (used jellybean keyfinder to install my legit cdkey)
Installed Media Portal RC 1.0
Installed FFDShow

Playing files accross the network is now very very fast
and some of the themes, WOW!!

My one and only problem, which is limiting me from using it in the "Real World" and would ruin the waf more then slow network playing is getting the guide going.

I have tried using the built in guide from the wizard and i have also used Freeepg's xmltv guide grabber. Either option my guide is always out by around 12 hours, i have tried changing the setting for offsetting timezone in the configuration setup of media portal, while this seems to change the hours it shows it still is very jumbled, eg the moto gp was on for 3 days!!! Today Tonight was on every 2 hours... I really dont know what i am doing wrong, i have followed serveral guides, and have used XMLTV files with MCE2005 and Webscheduler with no problems. Perhaps the guides i have been using are for a different version of media portal??? I am not sure

Any ideas peoples? plenty of Thanks to be handed out

Re: Media Portal Help

Don't know if you're in the market for it but I had a Media Portal PC running a few months ago and my ICE TV guide worked without a hitch. As 1 subscription can be used on 3 pc's it is quite a good deal IMHO.

Re: Media Portal Help

I use Freepg's Xmltv download program, follow the guide and get your data and send it to the xmltv folder in Mediaportal directory as the xmltv.dtd has to be present.
Lol I'm going to submit what I've written so far and then reboot and select Winxp os to fill in the rest of this info as I don't use Vista to play with Mediaportal.
Regards,
Gunner22 Back again, go into TV Server config screen and select plugins, then select XMLTV. Go into the XMLTV plugin config and under Settings tab browse to where your tvguide.xml is located. Also select "Import new tvguide.xml", "Delete old programs before import" and "Apply timezone compensation when loading tvguide". Then select Mappings tab and click on "Load\refresh" and if you setup your tuner properly it will show your available channels click on Save You should be able to go back to the Settings tab and click on Import and your data will be imported.Click on Ok at the bottom and then go into Mediaportal itself and wait for the data to populate, it should be correct if you've followed the steps thoroughly. Good luck, Gunner22. I've been using this for over 2 months now and it's a pretty good and reliable source and worth giving Freepg a donation to get a license so as to avoid the delay using a non licensed version of Xmltvdowload.

Re: Media Portal Help

I would have a serious look at Big Kev's EPG Downloader for TV Server, works flawlessly for me, and the site it gets the data from is free.

Re: Media Portal Help

Hi Frasertag, have you been able to sort this out yet? i too had trouble trying to set up the free epg service. i think this was more me and freeepg-documentation than mediaportal (i just couldnt use their tools properly)
i tried out ice tv for a month for free, and it worked perfectly right from the start. maybe give that a try.

on another note, i find that you may need to press the clear (or reset or something) epg information button in mediaportal set up each time you want to change the time delay.
also try and leave mediaportal on for a few minutes and see if the guide fixes itself - i found that if i changed it from say 10 to 12 hours it appeared as if nothing changed, but it just took a few minutes to fix.

hope i made sense there...

Another vote for BigKev, and here's the thread over at the MP forums, EPG Downloader Service (TV Server Only)

And the download page, MP EPG Downloader

It's pretty simple to add the FreeEPG data and then link up the channels. If you need more specific FreeEPG details I'll try and put together some better instructions when I'm home and the TV's not being used

Re: Media Portal Help

I assumed that MP RC 1.0 meant that TV Server was being used. Not sure why you would want to go back to the old engine (0.2?).

The TV Server can be installed side by side with the Client on the same machine (that's the way I'm using it). The TV Server from my point of view allows recordings etc to take place/continue when the app isn't running.

I've got the TV Server to enter standby after 5 minutes when it's not recording anything and the client isn't running. That way, the power button on my remote simply shuts down the client to a black empty desktop.

I then use the IR Server Suite that has a tray app to run MP on a manual resume from Standby. Whenever a recording is scheduled the TV Server starts up the PC records whatever it is, then shuts down 5 mins after without the client showing up.

The only issue I have right now is getting the screen to display something if I get home and server is already recording. Currenly I need to move the mouse or press a key. This probably just needs me to look at the power settings for the monitor.

Re: Media Portal Help

I think as soon as mediaportal 1 is released i will upgrade (currently on 0.2.3.0) since everything is working fine, including an epg from icetv i have no need to change anything yet, and i dont want to muck around installing each release candidate (decreases WAF).
although your hibernate/standby sounds good, i might have to look at that.......(would increase WAF).

Re: Media Portal Help

I'm running the RC 1 without any of the weekly SVN builds. Seems pretty stable to me, no worse than 0.2.3 is/was. Not too sure what's been fixed that might tempt you to upgrade though.

As is always the case, if it ain't broke don't fix it
