Over the weekend I finally got around to finalising the install of the Shepherd on the MythBuntu box. Whilst it does take a long time to do it's scraping thing, it is a formidable EPG. The link to IMDB is especially useful to me.
While I am at it, I think I am well into the second month since I threw out Vista and put MythBuntu in. I remain blown away about how rock solid it is. Especially when I reflect on Vista, which seemed to throw up at least one annoyance a day.

I am blown away by the fact that you could not manage to make Vista stable.
That is truly amazing, mate

Are you using a combined front/back end? Can't remember if you've told us already
OK, OK, I get it, I'm becoming b.o.r.i.n.g
Currently it's a backend/ frontend combo in the TV room. I can access it from other MythTV frontends around the house. Howvere, I can't get remote frontend TV viewing going. Crashes immediately. Working on it. Once I can reliably view TV remotely I'll set up a MythServer.
Any ideas for attractive, compact cases for frontends only?

You're not running compiz on the frontend are you? I've seen that crash out a frontend on tv viewing.
Depends what you're after for a frontend. Last box I built for a desktop I used an Antec NSK1380. Matx. Nice case, quiet, looks ok but it's probably not lounge room material. I haven't looked into HTPC cases for a while though it would be tempting to go Mac mini just for the form factor.
Not at all. I've just got a rubbish memory

Yes I am. I'll check it out.
EDIT: the frontend/backend combo is fine. The problem is the remote frontend crashing when attempting a TV session. But I have just received some advice from a MythTV mailing list so I'll be keen to try that out.

I've posted my issues elsewhere, but to encapsulate; slow networking even with SP1, dreadfully slow file transfer between hard disks, constant 'loss' of USB devices on reboots and wakeups, and general all 'round pathetic performance relative to the hardware.

I have none of that now.
Cheers.
Neither do I.
Running MCE 2005.

I agree shepherd is great. great work by the devs. the foxtel guide data is acurate to the minute. I host it on a server(s) at my office for use with vista media centre. (shepherd+tvxb+bladerunner+iis)
Damn... That's a great idea... I've been thinking about looking into the code of Shepherd to see how easily it could be ported to Wintel. Duh... I already run a linux server, wouldn't be hard at all to have it scrape and have the MCE machine update from there.
Of course. I could just get off my lazy back end and get that new antenna installed along with Myth backend on the server... Been talking about it for long enough now...
Cheers,
Arkay.
P.S. Myth frontend with compiz didn't work for me last time I tried. It worked on the combined front/backend but not on a standalone frontend... (from memory).
