Mythbuntu - all my prayers answered

Alright so I'm easily impressed but I can't believe what just happened.

I had the morning off and so I thought I might spend it giving the latest Mythbuntu a whirl.

It's based on Gutsy Gibbon Ubuntu 7.10. I started at 9 and I have now;
  1. got the guide working
  2. all video working lovely with the proprietary drivers
  3. remote configured and working (albeit in a very basic fashion)
  4. spdif output is working for Dolby 5.1 and stereo
  5. all channels scanned and configured
  6. my network and ntfs drives visible and accessible

All this and and I'm now listening to music despite Myth's bastard of a music interface (oh well at least I don't have album art issues ).

So a little over an hour and a half later and I have accomplished easily something I have been trying to do for years.

All of the plugins are included in the package so I've a ways to go yet in terms of being finished configuration but given the standard so far I'm looking forward to seeing what else I can do with this puppy.

So if you've been thinking of plunging into the arcane world of Myth-TV, its never been easier.

E.E.

Re: Mythbuntu - all my prayers answered

One caveat.

The Nvidia drivers installed by the restricted drivers manager are broken for playback on some devices in Myth. If you get the problem with a static pink or variegated green screen with TV/video playback then update to the latest drivers from the Nvidia website and all should be well.

Otherwise WAF is good, except she hates the music interface even more than I do. I know the answer to that one of course but I lack the coding skills.

That music interface blows.... I can't believe it could be that bad... Why can't anyone seem to get music interfaces right?

Cheers,

Arkay.

I couldn't agree more

The other thing I found, is if you trash the install and re-do it using the same computer name, mythtv holds all your mythtv settings in the database. Frontend only and maybe slave backend.
