Cheap BRD & HD-DVD combo thanks to Linux + PS3?

Does anyone agreee with me that, theoretically, a PS3 could make for a cheap combo device?

If you installed Ubuntu Linux (or Yellow Dog, whatever works) and had software that could play HD-DVD's & BRD's, as long as enough power could be utilised from the Cell processor (you can't use the Graphics chip in Linux installations on the PS3), and you had an external HD-DVD drive (ie an Xbox 360 HD-DVD player) connected to a USB V2.0 port, couldn't you theoretically have a combo drive (or drives, remember the internal BRD drive) for around $1250-$1300?

If true this could make the PS3 an even more capable device, $1000 is a bargain for what your getting in the PS3, and matched with a larger hard drive + multiple external TV Tuners + the HD-DVD drive you could have a fantastic Media Center at a price well below $2000 (estimate would be $1600 for a 250GB hard drive, single external tuner and HD-DVD drive, although if you got an external hard drive or a 2.5" to 3.5" adaptor it could be cheaper then this)

Ah, Yep, would be very cool indeed.
