Knoppmyth R5F1

(A stroll in the park...)

On a quiet Sunday afternoon I noticed there was a new version of Knoppmyth (R5F1).

I downloaded it and got out the first MCE box I built a couple of years back:
  • ATI Radeon 9200
  • AMD 2200+ Sempron
  • 1G RAM (333mhz)
  • Winfast DBTV1000 T
  • 120G Seagate IDE
  • Gigabyte mATX Mobo (VIA chipset)
  • Netgear 311 Wireless NIC
The first attempt at an autoinstall wouldn't work - the format of the HDD locked up around 14%. Over to the Knoppmyth forums. Posted my problem. Five minutes later I'm advised that Knoppmyth autoinstall expects hda to be a master on IDE0. The CD/ DVD has to be hdc master on IDE1

I set the changes and tried again. It went like a stroll in the park on a Sunday afternoon. The install was quick. Very quick. Everything configured in the GUI. No Linux /etc/mythtv/someotherstuff/lookyhere/my.bigconfiguration.conf to edit! I liked that. No obfuscated, windy, PITA linux geekspeak to read. I liked that even more!!

BIngo. Less than 30 minutes later I'm watching DBTV!!

It was almost too easy.

Next weekend I'm gonna try this on the XPMCE box that SHE made me take out of the house some months ago.

IMO, if you have some well established hardware lying around and want to try MythTV, Knoppmyth has to be it.

Regards

It has more to do with the chip set, I think.

There is a report card here.
