Media Portal turns my laptop into a 386 with 4MB of RAM.. or something

I've been using Media Portal for a couple of days and I'm going quite mental at this stage. It takes up sooo much resourses that my laptop almost boils over when I start it up. Fair enough I havn't got the fastest/newest laptop.. 1,4 GHz and 512 MB RAM, shared graphics card... but anyway. I need help! Either a way to tweak Media Portal to be less demanding or some other software that is more forgiving with older hardware. (streaming from windows media player works fine but I need/want a remote) Mayby I should just get rid of that crappy laptop and use my girlfriends macbook pro to watch my recorded shows. Are there any DVI converters out there that will enable me to hook it up to my even more crappy bedroom TV? Arrrgh... Help!

Re: Media Portal turns my laptop into a 386 with 4MB of RAM.. or something

a laptop with 4gb RAM would be pretty awesome

Interesting that your laptop is handling it that way - its is on the lower spec side. Even in wmp streaming for a longer period would take its toll from a heat point of view

If you do have the option use the macbook

also, remember about the xbox media center option - not hugely expensive and some quite good functionality. Unless you gave access to some salvage parts for a 'extender' use lower specd pc, the xbmc is a good option. Damn those laptops getting hot n bothered I thrashed my old toshiba sattelite to bits and there wasnt a part in it that didnt get replaced at least once !
