Who is going to jump?

DP-S1 is available on the Australian market

Digital Products Group has announce the official release of the Beyonwiz brand in Australia, with the Beyonwiz DP-S1 Personal Video Recorder launched in Melbourne today at the Harvey Norman Electrical National Conference.

The DP-S1 is a dual tuner high definition Personal Video Recorder with an onboard 200GB hard disk drive allowing users to pause and rewind live TV as well as record two high definition channels simultaneously while playing back a previous recording or network content. It also includes a DVD Player that up converts to high definition plus a home media centre that streams video, music and photos via Ethernet, wifi, external hard drives or the internet.

The device will also support IceTV's Australian electronic program guide as well as IceTV's free remote scheduling service, PIMP (Personal Interactive Media Planner). IceTV is also preparing to launch a video on demand service, which will initially only work with Windows Media Centre PCs but will be expanded to PVRs that support IceTV.

Digital Products Group will be demonstrating the DP-S1 when the Harvey Norman Expo opens to the public on Saturday May 12 at the Melbourne Exhibition & Convention Centre. The DP-S1 retails for $1599.

Beyonwiz DP-S1 Personal Video Recorder will be available at the Harvey Norman from 14 May.

Re: http://beyondwiz.com/

It's tempting, I'm definitely going to get my hands on one to play with.

It's what I was hoping Topfield would eventually make (I know, same engineering team). Ethernet! Finally! I know IceTV are excited about it. Still, there's no DVD burner plus obviously no ability to upgrade to Blu-ray/HD DVD when the price of drives drop.

Still, if you could pick one up for under $1000 it would be very tempting - but hard to justify buying it AND and htpc.

Re: http://beyondwiz.com/

Saw this today and was very interested.

I've just read through the user manual on the web-site and was underwhelmed. While the connections and presentation is great, the gui is very clunky and looks anything but straightforward. I think there is life in Media Center yet...

Re: http://beyondwiz.com/

lolz... are you kidding ... $1599...you could build a VistaMCE + Super gaming rig for less than that...... if it had a blu ray drive...it'd be a bit more appealing.... I with that type of cash you could but a PS3 AND and x360 - get blu ray and mce functionality and lots of gaming fun...

And anything that makes one walk into Harvey Norman is sectioned for the 'bollocks' category in my 'to do' list

I can see the appeal for the types that balk at DIY and have some bills to happily squander on something worth 1/3 what its selling for...

Re: http://beyondwiz.com/

Eek... What an icky looking gadget. Only Two tuners and only 200Gb... Hmmm!
Otherwise sounds quite functional and takes away much of the heartache for less technical buyers but my verdict...

No thanks!

Re: http://beyondwiz.com/

Seems like a reasonable attempt for an end user consumer good device. As a born tinkerer having too much fun with TV at the moment its not for me.

I can see how it will appeal to those on the cusp between a standard HDD recorder and thinking of a media centre type device though.

Re: http://beyondwiz.com/

I've played with one for a few days now, it has a lot of potential but it's still a work in progress. Here's a detailed review;
