Sorry, not strictly another media center option, but I felt I needed to vent.
I'm often flicked new PVRs to test for a mate who runs a custom install store, so the latest offering was the
Nextwave PVR-6900.
WORST PVR EVER
Pros:
Will record 2 channels at the same time (amazing how many PVRs can't).
Cons:
It's slow.
Can't jump between the 2 recording channels.
FF is painful - you have to wait for it to react to the previous press before it will recognize your next press.
Completely counter-intuitive menus.
It's ugly.
SD channels look awful.
Displays the wrong thumbnails.
Slow.
Remote is poorly laid out with mystery buttons.
It's really, really slow.
Doesn't automatically buffer - you have to tell it to buffer & then can't change channel!!
You can't jump in to a current recording & start viewing from the beginning or rewind!!!!
Did I mention that it's slow? I timed how long it took to react to some button presses - some were 7 or 8 seconds!
This is
NOT a PVR, it's a twin tuner STB with a hard drive in it. It's an HD hard drive based VCR. I just can't understand it - the market leader is (& has been for 3 years) the Topfield (admittedly, it's SD only). Why wouldn't you just copy it's functionality?
When compared to a Topfield, it's poor. When compared to an MCE, it's absolutely appalling! And the best bit? They want to price these at $1100!
