DMA2200 won't wake up PC but some folk say it does!?

From the DMA Tips and tricks thread (but as it is over 117 days I have to create a new post for my question.....

Last night I decided to do some experimentation with WOL and to my surprise it worked straight up. That surprised me because most posts I have read said it doesn't but every test I did showed it was definitely the extender waking up the MCE box. At this stage I have not tested whether the login script actually gets run under these circumstances as I had to turn off my other windows box to make sure it didn't interfere with my tests but I will probably work that out over the weekend with some more testing.
I have problems with my DMA2200 regarding wakeup of the VMC
I read as you did that the Linksys didn't support WOL so I am wondering what is different ?

I am running 10/100mb wired through a Linksys WRT54G wired/wireless router (VMC and Extender are wired to this router).

I discovered that if the PC is in sleep mode the Linksys fails to wakeup/connect to the PC when I choose VMC from the menu. This then causes the DMA2200 to go through setup again!

The only difference I can see is that when I setup the DMA2200 I didn't choose away mode as this meant I couldn't set my PC to sleep.

Has this something to do with the network or network card on the PC or is it something more simple than that as everything I have read ?

Everything else works for me very well on this setup and I am loving it! :-)

Re: DMA2200 won't wake up PC but some folk say it does!?

Just some more information, any help would be appreciated

My PC network card is an Intel 82562V-2 10/100 running in full duplex

On the power management tab there are Four options (see these with the descriptions below)

Wake on Directed Packer (off - DEFAULT SETTING)
Description:
Enables this device to bring the computer out of standby or hibernation when a packet is sent directly to the adapter. For example, any attempt to remotely access files stored on the computer will wake it.

This was the first one I chose but as soon as the PC goes to sleep it wakes up within 2 seconds

Wake on Magic Packet (on - DEFAULT SETTING)
Description:
Enables a management station to bring the computer out of standby or hibernation when a Magic Packet* is sent directly to the adapter.

Wake on Magic Packet from Power off state (off - DEFAULT SETTING)
Description:
Allows the adapter to wake an Advanced Power Management (APM) enabled system from a power-off (S5) state. ACPI systems can wake from an S5 state if the system's BIOS supports it.

Wake on Link (off - DEFAULT SETTING)
Description:
Allows the adapter to wake an Advanced Power Management (APM) enabled system from a power-off (S5) state when the network connection establishes link.ACPI systems can wake from standby (S3) or Hibernate (S4). If the system's BIOS supports it, ACPI systems can wake from an S5 state.
NOTE:
Link must be lost before the system enters an S5 state in order to wake the system with a link up event.

Re: DMA2200 won't wake up PC but some folk say it does!?

I've seen people on TGB claim to have used Ethereal to confirm that the DMA2x00 sends a Wake-on-ARP/Ping at startup rather than send a WoL. Certainly, as far as I can tell, it doesn't send a WoL (X360 does, and it can wake my HTPC up).

I e-mailed Linksys/Cisco in March to ask them to clarify. The auto response I received said they would answer within one business day. That was a bit off, because it actually took them 5 months. Their response, in the end, was that they don't send any packet at startup, which directly contradicts those people who have bothered to snoop the network.

Either way, the NIC on my HTPC doesn't support Wake-on-ARP as far as I know.
