VP7 Codec and extenders

Hello,

I've never heard of VP7. I have come across a TV series encoded in this format. THe quality is excellent and i can watch on the VMC with FFDSHOW installed.

My question is will i be able to watch these episodes on an extender? More so the Linksys.
I don't own an extender yet but i don't want to commit to grabbing this series if i'm going to have to re-encode to h.264.

I did a quick test and it did not show the video on the extender - it did play the audio with a blank screen.

I downloaded the 720p promotional video from ON2 - and played it on the DMA2200.

Cheers,
Col.

Re: VP7 Codec and extenders

Thanks for testing it out Mackrory. I think it is a form of mp4 with some sort of propriatory wrapper. Looks like maybe if you can play it correctly on the main rig, it will work on a DMA?

Would be nice to have more opinions on this codec.

I am not sure I agree - albeit I am no expert here.

I thought the DMA2x00 had it's own codec's - so even if the VMC could play it - that does not mean the DMA will play it unless the DMA supported that codec (which it doesn't).

Admittedly though - I can't play it on the VMC either as I don't have the VP7 codec installed on the VMC - but I could go down that path (if need be) to prove the point.

Thanks,
Col.

Re: VP7 Codec and extenders

Try renaming it to an AVI, I have had this work with other files on DMA before

The file downloaded from ON2 is an AVI file.

Re: VP7 Codec and extenders

I've decided to convert these VP7 encoded files to XVID's for maximum compatibility using MCEBuddy.
