DMA2X00 questions. Their own software?

I work at a retail store, so i can get access to lots of different brands easily, and cheaply.

I have heaps of DVDs, music, tv shows, etc on the computer. Would be very handy to be able to play them in the loungeroom. So i started the hunt to find an option.

First off, we got a Netgear EVA8000. Terrible! Menu was hard to use, slow and there were no search options at all. We sent it back.

Then i got a Dlink DSM-330. It arrived yesterday. I was up until 4am this morning trying to get it to play dvd files, and succeeded. Come morning, the unit was dead. It will be RA'd tomorrow.

Now, we're looking at the DMA2100 (no need for dvd player). Noticed it uses VMC. Handy, but i'm having some issues with that at the moment that i hope to sort out. Linksys says they can use their own software too, instead of VMC. Has anyone actually done this?

Re: DMA2X00 questions. Their own software?

I don't think you can use any other software. I've got a DMA2200 and it is definitely only intended for use as a Media Center Extender. The product overview says:

"The Linksys DMA 2100 and 2200 Media Center Extenders provide you with the ability to access your Windows Vista™ operating system and control content on your Vista Media Center computer."
