Newbie question on Media Extenders

Hi,

I have a Media center. I'm thinking of buying a Media Center Extender, (perhaps the linksys)

I also want to buy a NAS and hook this up to the network. The NAS will hold all my media.

In this setup, can I use the Media Extender to play media off my NAS, WITHOUT having the main media center turned on - or does the media center need to be on ?

thanks

Re: Newbie question on Media Extenders

Media Centre needs to be turned on.

You could use one of the Media Streaming Devices (such as the D-link) that is not actually an extender but just plays digital media via it's own interface.

Personally I would go for the Linksys and have the Media Centre on.
