Wink My 2nd machine w/MCE as Extender? Or?

Hi ...

I'm a new user for MCE.

I have a couple of machines in my home, one is already configured as MCE (Vista Home Premium). However, I would like to know if I could config the second machine as MCE Extender.. How can I do that? Do I have to install MCE as well? Or, could I install Linux on that machine, but what app I should install? I prefer to use my 2nd machine as Extender, instead of regular Extender device as D-Link's DSM-750 Media Center Extender (to much, $260 @ Amazon)

I'd appreciate your help!

Regards!

Re: My 2nd machine w/MCE as Extender? Or?

As far as I know, if you have 2 machines with Vista Media Center on, you won't be able to get live TV fed to the one you are using as the extender. You can get everything else though, such as recorded TV, it's just a matter of setting the video folders to those on the media center. To get live TV you need to purchase an official extender. You would need 2 copies of Vista with either Premium or Ultimate.

I guess, if you're not concerned about live TV you can just share the folders on your network from the one Media Center PC and view them on the second. I personally would prefer the extender as it's a simpler affair.
