Play DVD's with the DMA2100 ?

I wanted to play a DVD with the newly installed DMA2100, inserted one in the PC's DVD drive .... but alas ... the DVD (and the drive) were not recognised by the extender. They were (as usual) recognised by the MCE -PC however!
I tried to set the drive's sharing setting to the maximum allowed for everybody and also set the media sharing in the network and sharing center to maximum allowed. Nada!!
I also noticed a difference between the MCE settings of the extender and the PC.
The normal (MCE-PC) items are : General -- TV -- Pictures -- Music -- DVD -- Extender -- Library.
The items in the DMA2100 MCE settings are: General -- TV -- Pictures -- Extender -- Library.
So Music and DVD are missing !
I fear that I missed something simple but can't find where and what.
Can somebody help ??

That's one of the things that Media Extenders don't do - play DVDs from the Media Center PC. Not a limitation of the Linksys product but of Microsoft's Media Center. If you want to watch the same DVD over and over again, you can copy it onto the PC and covert it to a video format the Linksys will play. That is why the DMA2200 has a built-in DVD player (that runs outside the Media Center interface).

Re: Play DVD's with the DMA2100 ?

And it makes no sense as to why it can't. It must be a built in copy protection mechanism or something....

VLC can play a DVD from a remote drive (provided it's shared), so I can't fathom it.

But in answer to the OPs question you cannot play a DVD on an extender using a remote DVD drive.
