DVD Library on your Extender - How To...

HI,

Over on the Home Theater Pc User Group, They have posted a possible solution for those who desperately want to see the DVD Library menu on their extenders, and have the ability to stream the VOB Files.

Here: http://www.htpcug.org/Default.aspx?tabid=168

Now, I don't own an extender yet, but I'm sure this solution is a bit of a fudge, as far as i can tell, the .VOB are being transcoded to Mpeg.

What i find interesting it that DVD Library will pick up the .wvx playlist files. If this is the case, what would stop you from creating a .WVX for every .AVI movie so it will show up in DVD Library? Question then is could you run the .WVX from the DVD Library and get the .AVI's to play?

Re: DVD Library on your Extender - How To...

After some tinkering around, I couldn't get dvd library to recognise any .wvx playlist file.

Hmm interesting, sounded like good news at first but it seems pretty complicated after scanning the instructions there.

Re: DVD Library on your Extender - How To...

Vista SP1 is needed for the DVD Library to work on the extenders.

Copy and paste the scprit into notepad and save as "CreateWXV.vbs".
Then run "cscript CreateWXV.vbs your_DVD_folders_here", from command-prompt, run as admin.

Then unzip the file and copy transcoder.dll into your Media Centers \Windows\Ehome folder. Then run the transcoder.reg file to import the dll registration

Hi Richard,

So does the DVD Library on the extender pickup the .wvx file? Does this also show up on the main Media Center?

The DVD Library on the extender plays VOBs using and hardlink to the mpegs, playlist(.wvx) plays the mpegs.
If you use the DVD Library in Media center(not on the Extenders )will not use the wvx file, your dvds will still play same before using vobs, the wvx file in the VIDEO_TS folder is not going too give you any problems if its in that folder.
Only the extender need to use the playlist file(.wvx).
