Just bought my DMA2200. I ran the set up on the 2200, got the key, went to my VMC and installed the CD which resulted in a reboot. I checked the network and the 2200 was there! I went to 'add extender' and punched in the key. It goes through a few steps, finds the extender, configures it, and then the last step fails and it says something like 'Cannot connect to extender'. What the?
I am connecting wirelessly and it is finding the network fine and gets assigned an IP, all of the other PC's on the network can see the 2200.

Any ideas would be most appreciated!
Thanks,

Did you try running Windows Update after the first reboot? I know there is an extender update from Microsoft that needs to be installed. I personally searched and downloaded it outside WindowsUpdate but I think (not sure) it installs with WindowsUpdate. Alternatively have a look at the doco for where to download it from.
Note I just updated my above post. I'm not certain if it installs under WindowsUpdate (it probably does) but I know it is mentioned somewhere in the doco or in the downloadable quickstart guide.
Ok, I may well be missing something, particularly if it is for the 2200 in particular. I do have an xbox360 that is working fine as an extender at the moment. The reason I bought the 2200 is because I need a wireless connection for upstairs. I'll see how I go tonight and report back in! Thanks.

No problem. Just one further thing. If you find you're still having trouble try allocating a static IP address manually. I preferred that method since I got one collision early on and decided I'd prefer it not to change.
Ok I'll give it a shot, thanks Phil. I just saw your post on the Linksys support forums, seems like some other people have had the same problem. Ok, now I just need to get my hands on it so that I can try these things out....

It's either my router or it's a faulty unit. I connect it to the router with a cable and it can barely hang on to the network, stays up for a second, then disconnects again. I use wireless and it gets a connection and an IP fine, but when I try to do a firmware update it says network error.
The other PC's on the network seem to be fine. I am getting a new wireless-n router next week so that will eliminate the problem (if it is indeed a faulty router).

Guess I just wait now
Thanks again for your help so far.

Well I've read similar stories about the firmware update error but I'm not sure they were related specifically to connectivity. One thing I have heard suggested is that you should disable upnp on your router. For whatever reason some people have found that this works. I would certainly go down the road of getting it working while physically connected before attempting any wireless config. Try setting a fixed IP address using the same subnet as your router. On my DMA2200 I have used an IP of 10.1.1.100 with a subnet of 255.0.0.0 and the gateway and primary DNS is set to 10.1.1.1. My D-Link router uses an IP of 10.1.1.1 with a subnet of 255.0.0.0. The thing to be sure of is that you don't use a conflicting address and you can prevent most routers from allocating that IP either by reserving it for the nominated device or by configuring the DHCP server to restrict the available range of addresses. The point is that if other devices are working on the network then there's not a lot of likelihood there's anything especially wrong with the router.
