Mini-ITX Extender?

Hi All,

Was pondering the idea of putting this Media Extender together:

Silverstone LC09B
Jetway J9F2 Extreme Mini-ITX
C2D T7600
Samsung HM080HI HDD Sata
Pioneer DVR-K06 DVD
2GB 667 DDR2
Ricoh PCI-PCMCIA Adaptor
Linksys WIFI PCMCIA Draft N

Now my questions:

1. Will this be able to play live and recorded (From a server PC) 1080i HDTV
2. Will this be able to play 1080p HD movies stored on the server
3. If I installed a blu-ray slim optical (if available) could the extender play bd @ 1080p
4. Does anyone know if the HDMI on this MB is HDCP commpatible
5. Will Draft N be able to stream all this content

All thoughtt on this possible build would be appreciated, I think this would look awesome sitting next to a LCD

Re: Mini-ITX Extender?

You can't build your own extender for VMC. There is no software that will display the live TV (search for threads on the aborted Softsled project). You will be able to play the recorded TV if you share out the folder, but it will apear as video in the video library, not as recorded TV.

Re: Mini-ITX Extender?

Well, if one of the systems is a Vista Ultimate you can actually get the Recorded TV to appear in the actual recorded tv section of another PC. Check out this thread.

The above requires using gpedit.msc to edit group permissions, so it's limited to Ultimate.

There was a comment on that page about getting it to work with Premium, but it requires editing the registry.

Quote:
The directions here are for Vista Ultimate, but with one small tweak you can make this solution work for Vista Home Premium as well.
Vista Home does not include the policy editor capability. So when you get to this step above:
"Click Start and then type gpedit.msc in the search box and hit enter."
You won't find gpedit on your machine. However, you can make the necessary adjustments directly to the registry, and achieve the desired outcome. Details on translating between gpedit and the related registry keys are here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
For this particular one you just need to do this:
* From the start menu, type regedit into the search box to open the registry
* Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\LanManServer\Parameters
* Right-click on Parameters and choose New - Multi-String value
* Name it NullSessionShares
* Edit the value, and type in Recorded TV
Then reboot, and continue on with the directions to access the new share from your other MPCs.
Good luck!

But as for sharing LiveTV, there is no way you can do it at the moment using VMC or MCE2005. Apparently MediaPortal has this functionality though, and BabGavant is working creating an app to do it for VMC.

Re: Mini-ITX Extender?

Easiest way to do an extender is by buying a Xbox 360. cheaper and built to be an extender.

1. Will this be able to play live and recorded (From a server PC) 1080i HDTV

not sure what the resolution a 360 produces

2. Will this be able to play 1080p HD movies stored on the server

As Above

3. If I installed a blu-ray slim optical (if available) could the extender play bd @ 1080p

No BlueRay but they have HDDVD

4. Does anyone know if the HDMI on this MB is HDCP commpatible

I think I have seen cables and coolers that give you HDMI output or you can buy the Elite version but its expensive. I dont care for HDMI as I run sound to my receiver and video to my TV, if you have a HDMI capable receiver you are laughing

5. Will Draft N be able to stream all this content.

could buy a draft N bridge.
