So I spent this last weekend finishing up this html app.
The plugin allows you to browse and play audio, video and pictures on you computer in a nice listed view.
I also added the option create favorite folders to appear on the main page.
its may just be a personel thing but i think the blue square would look better if it was seethrough. ie you saw the mce background.
On second looks i think the font is probably ok, just the background makes it looks a little tackey. I suppose i'm being fussy here but the box is in my lounge so even though it worked 1st time I'd still need it to look nice in order for me to attempt to teach the other half to use it!
From what I understand, Playlists are only done in MCE if your machine is setup as a "streaming server". That seems a litte to heavy for me application. Creating an ASX file is no problem but MCE doesn't seem to like it unless it is from a WebHost instead of a local machine.
So thanks for the reply, I though people might want the app, considering I only wrote it for my own use.
It's out there, so anyone who wants it can use it.
Can't you create a M3U playlist out of the folder and ask, very nicely and polite, that WMP plays it?
Wich font do you use? you cannot maybe make a standard "settings.ini" were everyone can change the background and font so it becomes a bit customizable.
Good work

Good idea with the m3u playlist... I'm going to look into it.
Also, in C:\Program Files\MCE File Browser\ there is a main.css file... change the fonts there to anything you want. To change the background just overwrite gradient.png with any png file you want.
Because of all your feedback, I'm going to try to improve the looks some more, and try again for playlists.
Also, I added an option to play all video files in a folder (playlist)
Now I need your help, for some reason when I test this on another computer, the fonts seems to be smaller than on my development machine. Can you guys post a screenshot of how it looks on your machine to compare it with my development machine?
this is a great idea, I installed and restarted, started up the app, chose a folder of avi videos, the first one started playing, all good, I fast forwarded and got the next one playing and I'm in heaven. Such a great idea.
One big bug for me though...
When I press stop, every time I get...
A Runtime error..
Line 338
Error: 'oCurFocus' is null or not an object.
I've tried different directories and hdd's etc and different types of video file, all do the same thing...
yep, looks just like that, I also find that I can't use the mouse to click on the down arrow (bottom right) and scroll down?? It's ok with the remote of course, so no big deal.
Ok so now I'm really impressed. And very very happy
Installed first time, worked first time. Love this app i've spent ages with others which haven't worked, both versions have worked fine for me so pretty over the moon.
So my comments (ie you're a genuis but...)
I'm still not keen on the look, i'm not sure what it is but it just doesn't look quite as slick as other mce apps. Don't get me wrong version 0.2 is miles better than 1, maybe its the fact the text goes all the way to the top left and doesn't sit as centrally as other apps but i'm not sure.
Also not a fan of the small video box that comes up. When you hit close it goes into the bottom left like when you press guide while watching tv, could it do that first time? On my machine this is surounded by a blue that is a slightly daeker (and ungradiediated) than the rest of the screen.
I'm pretty sure the answer will be no here but is there a way to skip to the next track without having to search through the whole song?
And finally and perhaps more importantly could the play all function have some options, ie include subfolders, random, date order etc.
3 very minor gripes with an otherwise very useful app, version 0.2 is all i need but would look forward to a future slightly slicker version if realeaced.
I am really doing this for fun and the biggest challenge believe or not is getting the app to look good. I don't know C#, so the entire app is written in javascript and HTML. Maybe that is why I am lacking in the looks department. I'll give it another try in the next version.
I had a really great idea to make it act more like the MCE start page, where the select button stays on the center of the screen but the text moves up and down, and then have the folders on the right side, and the files on the left. Maybe I am overdoing it. It might not even be possible with my limited knowledge of Hosted HTML.
Tigger, thanks for taking the time to identify functionality problems, and Don thanks for keeping me in MCE fashion.
