hey,
i'm not sure if anyone is using this installer, but i though i'd let you know about it... its called InnoSetup (
http://www.jrsoftware.org/isinfo.php. its a powerful freeware installer as good, if not better then installshield.
i noticed that impact used a freeware installer for the latest version of FreeXMLTV that had a popup at the end of the installation, i typically hate freeware programs that have there own popups (i understand why they have them, but hate them)... so that led me to write this post.
just to let you know, that i'm not affiliated with innosetup at all... i use it for the installation of my programs here at work and its worked a treat. other developers have written programs that complement innosetup which let you add additional setup wizard pages and a GUI.
thinking out loud, with the freexmltv installation and using innosetup you could create the script for the bat file all inside the setup wizard including location, cateogories, hd content etc, connect to the internet and download the current guide any errors can be detected and fixed, a task could then be added to the scheduler ... after its finished the end user has a working guide and a scheduled task just from using the setup wizard
...my 2cents
cheers
