InnoSetup installer

hey,

i'm not sure if anyone is using this installer, but i though i'd let you know about it... its called InnoSetup (http://www.jrsoftware.org/isinfo.php. its a powerful freeware installer as good, if not better then installshield.
i noticed that impact used a freeware installer for the latest version of FreeXMLTV that had a popup at the end of the installation, i typically hate freeware programs that have there own popups (i understand why they have them, but hate them)... so that led me to write this post.

just to let you know, that i'm not affiliated with innosetup at all... i use it for the installation of my programs here at work and its worked a treat. other developers have written programs that complement innosetup which let you add additional setup wizard pages and a GUI.

thinking out loud, with the freexmltv installation and using innosetup you could create the script for the bat file all inside the setup wizard including location, cateogories, hd content etc, connect to the internet and download the current guide any errors can be detected and fixed, a task could then be added to the scheduler ... after its finished the end user has a working guide and a scheduled task just from using the setup wizard

...my 2cents

cheers

mark

Re: InnoSetup installer

Cheers Mark.

It was actually me that created the installer, as the release suggests, and I tried asking around for assistance in which installers to use, but kept hitting walls, due to people's unwillingness to help me.

I will definately be giving innosetup a go, as I was not terribly happy about the pop-up on the end, but couldn't be bothered paying for the program for the once off use in creating the installer. This is also the reason for the neanderthal-ish approach to creating the batch file, as I was limited in what the free install creator would allow me to do.

Unfortuantely for you, this now means that I may drop you the odd PM requesting help with something I am trying to achieve

I will definately be giving innosetup a go, and will re-release the installer in the way I had originally intended, and the way it seems this is capable.

Thanks again,

Schlep.

Re: InnoSetup installer

I have been looking into installers for a little project I am working on at the moment and found the NSIS nullsoft scriptable install system http://nsis.sourceforge.net/ brilliant.

I would highly recommend you get the GUI editor for it toofrom here http://hmne.sourceforge.net/

I will have to check out this innosetup too, but I am leaning to NSIS as I have seen it used in alot of my favourite applications so it must be pretty good.
