Torrent Download addin

I've put together an addin that can provide a 10' experiance for downloading torrent files. It's basically a front end to the Azureus bittorrent client. It downloads the torrents from the kangarootv.com rss feed, once it's setup no playing around with bittorrent clients is needed. Anyway check it out and let me know what you think.

Re: Bittorrent Addin

Wow! One less trip off the couch

This is just what MCE has been missing for me.

It works fine as a download status viewer, but kicking off a download didn't work.

While you're working on the GUI -

Would it be possible to get a list of categories for torrent selection, and then a list of torrents for each category?

Keep up the good work!

Re: Torrent Download addin

Ok... There's a fine line here guys. This is my stance.

As a moderator I have a duty to protect the site. This means we have to disallow any discussion regarding illegal use of legal software.

This software is in no way shape or form illegal. It looks like a great plugin and I congratulate dan-p for putting it together, it's a great idea.

Bittorrent in itself is a transport protocol, there is nothing illegal about it and it is also possible to source legal TV shows for download via bittorrent sources.

Should you choose to use it (or ftp or any other transport protocol), to retrieve illegal content, then YOU are the one breaching the law. Not the author of a client for that protocol.

As such we will remove any discussion about illegal activities from this thread.

Discussion about the merits of the plugin, problems with the plugin etc should remain focused on the plugin, not any content that you may be attempting to download.

Please discuss with care.

Thanks.

Cheers,
Arkay.

Re: Torrent Download addin

Agreed, so on that note I would like to call on the forum manageres to stop users posting about recording TV broadcasts, manipulating TV recordings and using EPGs because they are all illegal uses of MCE software or are these forums biased towards MS with one rule for the illegal use of MS products and another rule for others?

Re: Torrent Download addin

Agreed. No futher discussions about recorded TV or EPG's is allowed...

In fact. No further discussion about MCE, as it's primary function is Recording TV via an EPG...

What are MS thinking releasing legal software that can so readily be used illegally....

Site closed.

Seriously though. The use of EPG and/or the recording of live TV has no where near the weight that the likes of the mpaa can bring down on a site. If you want the site to remain "incident free" as we do, then the request to not openly discuss illegal torrents is justified.

The nature of "internet piracy" is not comparable to recording TV in your living room for personal use. It is to do with the mass distribution of recorded television and rightly so we also discourage any posts along the lines of "Anyone tape CSI last night, I missed it, can you send it to me?"

Cheers,
Arkay.

I am forced to agree. The whole quasi-legal practice of recording tv shows is a dubious matter at best. The archiving of said recordings doubly so.

I do not mean to be po-faced though when I say, a line must be drawn in the sand.

When all's said and done this is essentially a very clean forum. We all know that downloading of illegal files on BT is a common practice. It also commonly discussed openly elsewhere.

I say leave it at that and let's just stick to the focus of this forum MCE and its applications.

Okay sure, so is there an automatic process for MCE yet to record and compress and cut out adds then pass the file to the new bittorrent MCE client for other people not to download?

Re: Torrent Download addin

Boys,

Seems that the wrong thing is the focus here. Dan_p has done a great job developing another add-on for MCE, if you choose to use it great but if it doesn't sit right with you then give it a wide birth.

I've been a member of this forum for a couple of months now and I've got nothing but praise for these guys that spend hours of their own time developing apps and add-ons for MCE. This kind of stuff is way out of my league.

Keep up the good work Dan_p!

Re: Torrent Download addin

I can't wait to get home to try this out!

I'll be the first to ask for feature requests. I think ultimately this plugin should be able to schedule downloading of episodes of (public domain) television shows. So when the new episode of (insert public domain tv show) becomes available in the US, it is automatically downloaded for you and put in the correct folder. This would be ultimate. It could also put up a little alert saying '[Show] Episode 213 available' or something like that.

Thank you!

Re: Torrent Download addin

No arguement on the plugin itself, just the double post really .

I meant he posted this one first and it got no replies so he posted again later on. I just ment that maybe replies were scarce becasue of the questionable legalities of the situation.

congrats on the great plugin and keep up the efforts dan_p
