Quiet CPU fan

Howdy
I have my HTPC built in to a Silverstone SG-01 case. I recently upgraded the CPU to an Athlon64X2 6000+ with stock cooler. Unfortunately my motherboard doesn't have any Q-Fan profiles (aside from enabled or disabled) so at times my CPU fan can get a bit noisy. I am considering getting a different CPU fan/heatsink, but was curious what other people might be using?

Re: Quiet CPU fan

From Silverstone Website
"CPU cooler cannot exceed 82mm in height"

I am using Zalman but be careful of the height restriction..

Re: Quiet CPU fan

Scythe Ninja Mini - in passive mode (no fan on the heatsync, but my case fan is basically next to it). 0dB (ignoring any sound the case fans make) :-)

Re: Quiet CPU fan

Scythe ninja mini is about 115mm in height I think, so that is out. I have a feeling if you check out the silverstone website for your case, they may recommend some type of HSF for your case (eg NT06-E), otherwise, I would check out the thermalright web site. They have some really good HSF's, and should have a top downer or similar that would fit in your case, maybe as a passive.

The Zalman's are ok, and something like the 7000 would fit in your case easy, but I have always found that the Zalman fans are not as quiet as they should be. Might be ok for you though.

Re: Quiet CPU fan

Not the Scythe Mini, you need the Shuriken, 64 mm high

Or Zalman 7700, 76mm high:

Re: Quiet CPU fan

I'm using the same case with a Zalman 7700cu. fits fine, but as with all zalmans fit before you stick it in the case. I use it on a very low speed, so virtually silent. its now covered in dust and making some noise so I think its time for a clean up.
