Pioneer Blu ray player firmware upgrade

Pioneer now has released 1.07 version for firmware.

Anyone had any issues upgrading their Pioneer SB02? Any tips or tricks before i begin the process.

You mean BDC-S02...

No tricks just an executable file you execute. However if you have an Nvidia or AMD chipset you might get an error message, likewise if you run AnyDVD or something like that.

Give it a try and see how you go. It should be a 30second job, reboot, job done.

Re: Pioneer Blu ray player firmware upgrade

@thebrad, so what fixes are in 1.07 ? i'm running 1.04 and have issues with the drive not waking correctly from S3 sleep and then it drops out of device manager, this is when connected to the ATI SB600, does the drive now work with the ATI SB600 resuming from S3 sleep now ?

Anything with devices not working properly in S3 are mainboard driver issues, not drive issues. 1.07 is just media related.

This can be simply proven by putting a PCI SATA card in your system, and the resume functions work fine. Other users here have done exactly that. The SB600 unfortunately is a dramatically flawed design and was never really recommended for the Blu-ray drives.

Well there's no guarantees you will, but if you see "Available target not found" its fairly typical. If this is the case you can't run the firmware at all. If you have any virtual CD/DVD drives, AnyDVD or multiple CD/DVD drives you might see this too.

Safe mode might work but it really depends.

Hopefully Nvidia have sorted the software so it just works anyway. It often depends whether or not you have ForceWare installed or not, if your drive works well, I suggest you probably don't, so the upgrade should be OK.

just to be 100% clear, this firmware is just to increase compatibility of DVD burning???

it won't help with reading certain bluray disks, correct? (thats a powerdvd thing?)

That is correct - drive firmware has NOTHING whatsoever to do with playing Blu-ray discs.

However I am not aware of any current problems, I don't believe there should be issues with the recent PowerDVD builds.

Re: Pioneer Blu ray player firmware upgrade

yea, neither am i.

was just being 100% clear for people, if all you do is watch DVDs/BluRays, then there is no need to update the firmware.

err, hhmm, that's an odd assertion to make, as the Pioneer DVR-212 has no such issues resuming from S3 sleep with the SB600....

it seems it's just the Pioneer BDC-202 / BDC-S02 has the issue!
