Matrix Orbital GX Typhoon LCD & IR

Does anyone have any experience regarding the Matrix Orbital GX Typhoon (part number GX24064-TC-BBI)?

Dominion Electronics distributes MO in Australia, but the GX is not listed on their web site. I have sent them a query - waiting on a reply.

I was considering buying an Antec Fusion case with built-in VFD and IR. But now I'm thinking of downgrading the case to an Antec NSK2480 and add the GX Typhoon. This case appears very similar to the Fusion in terms of heat distribution and noise.

Pros:
- LCD is portable if I want to change case.
- No volume knob - one less thing for sticky little fingers to play with
- Possibly more functional - not sure of the capabilities of the Fusion VFD - but the Typhoon looks like it'll just about make your lunch for you.

Con's:
- You see the optical drive face-plate on the NSK2480 - lower WAF

Questions:
- The NSK2480 has a 350W source. Is that a problem?
- Any personal feelings for/against the Matrix Orbital? I googled this, which seems pretty positive.
- Any other feedback on this approach?
- Know of any other sources of the GX Typhoon in Melbourne?
- Any interest for Melbournians clubbing in on an order to share postage (if I go ahead with an order...)?

Re: Matrix Orbital GX Typhoon LCD & IR

I'll take that silence as a general ambivalence toward Matrix Orbital LCD/VFD panels.

If anyone is interested, Dominion have replied to my pricing query:
Quote:
The pricing for the GX Typhoon GX24064-TC-BBI is $147 excl GST and $25 for shipping and Handling
Ouch.

Still, it's a funky looking panel.

Re: Matrix Orbital GX Typhoon LCD & IR

I have never seen this display, but for the price of the 2480 and that, you would be spending more than the fusion.

The VFD on the fusion is not great, but the aluminium face plate and the stealth drive bay cover look way better than the 2480, so even assuming the Matrix is a better display, the case won't look as good and will cost more.

I have the fusion, but I would not buy a case for a VFD alone, and I would not put one in a case if it didn't have one. The small VFD's or LCD's are flawed, because you can't see anything written on them unless your couch is too close to the TV, and the remote sensors in them tend to be not particularly sensitive. If you just want one to make your case look more like a piece of hifi equipment, don't spend $150 on this one.

Just my thoughts, don't mean to be too negative.
