Known fault with Logitech DiNovo Mini with Vista

I have hit a fault with the Logitech DiNovo Mini under Vista.

After installation and first discovery it will work for about 48 hours then stop.

Short term fixes are:

1. Remove battery and replace. Then try to re-discover. May need to press the red buttons on the handset and the bluetooth dongle, and may need to restart PC.
2. Reinstall the Logitech drivers.

Logitech admitted to me today that it is a known fault and they are working on it.

Attempted solutions that failed:
- Restart HTPC.
- Press the red buttons on the handset and the bluetooth dongle.
- Install latest Logitech drivers.
- unstall drivers and restart. This worked at first as the Vista drivers work for the Mini as well. Fault returned after 48 hours.
- Plug dongle into different USB port.

I have read threads from other forums and this fault would seem to affect other DiNovo divices and Win XP as well.

If you know of a cure then let me know.

Re: Known fault with Logitech DiNovo Mini with Vista

Thanks Hincho,

I just assumed I'd gone mad!

Interesting that I did pretty much every one of your suggested actions from the bottom up and only solved it when I removed the battery and reinserted it. I was not a happy chap to have spent so long on the problem only to find it was the old "try turning it off and back on again" that I really should have tried first.

Here's hoping it doesn't happen again.

Cheers,

Andy

I have this problem too, however I found the bastard solution (remove battery) within 5 minutes of tring to re-sync the kb with the dongle. Lets see if logitech comes the party on this one atleast.

Anyone found a fix for this? I have run into this (after having it only for 2 days) and the missus is not happy.

Re: Known fault with Logitech DiNovo Mini with Vista

I replaced my Logitech reciever with a class 1 Bluetooth dongle and haven't had any problems since doing that.

The other advantage is that a class 1 dongle has a 100m range as apposed to the class 2 reciever supplied by logitech which has a 10m range.

The down side is that the dinovo mini will only work within Windows. Not a problem for me, but may be a pain for some.

The dongle cost me ~$30.

Re: Known fault with Logitech DiNovo Mini with Vista

I have my mini with MCE 2005 - no problems.
Therefore it is a software issue IMO. Eventually, they will fix it, I hope.

Re: Known fault with Logitech DiNovo Mini with Vista

Can anyone else confirm that using it via a bluetooth dongle (not the one provided) has fixed the issue of the non-response?

Unhappy Re: Known fault with Logitech DiNovo Mini with Vista

Sorry to hear of the issues you are all experiencing, but do appreciate the info. Was going to consider one of these in the near future but for now might hold off.

Strange to hear of such an issue as my expereince with Logitech gear has been great. Except for my MX Revolution that couldnt program the extra buttons but found a hack in the software for that little issue.

GL and hope Logitech update very soon for you all.

Re: Known fault with Logitech DiNovo Mini with Vista

I think I'm just going to return it and get the diNovo edge or something else.

One major requirement with the stuff I buy is that the missus can use it without having to tinker around with it.

I have used one for 4 months and haven't had this problem So either its a random hardware fault or a software fault, I suspect the latter

buccaneerBob - do you have issues sleeping your computer by connecting the diNovo through Bluetooth?

Re: Known fault with Logitech DiNovo Mini with Vista

I dont have any problem with S3 sleep and restore. I have had mine for over a week in vista with sleeping and waking every day. The only thing is the thing takes a little bit to initialise the connection. I find flicking it to mouse mode and moving my finger until u see the cursor move and then you are set to go...

One thing I'm wondering though, what key sequence do you need to press to close windows?? I'm used to my MCE keyboard and using Alt-F4 to close VMC to get back to the desktop... holding Alt-FN-4 doesnt do anything... is there another shortcut to close VMC (or any window) in one command in the way that Alt-F4 does??

Re: Known fault with Logitech DiNovo Mini with Vista

How do you actually bring your PC back from sleep? I do it by hitting a few keys on the diNovo - and hence it is annoying when it doesn't work.

Re: Known fault with Logitech DiNovo Mini with Vista

Hi,

FIRST ISSUE:

I also have exactly the same problem. When I initially plugged the diNovo mini dongle in, it worked as long as I restarted the HTPC. Then everything ceased working. When the mini worked, it only had Vista drivers installed.

After the mini stopped responding, I tried to install Logitech SetPoint 4.60 software, which proved to be a big mistake. I ended up spending several hours deleting registry paths, hidden devices etc. just to notice that nothing worked.

After that I took the battery out, put it back in and voilà, all of the functions and buttons worked again. After this brief moment of stupendous joy I fired up MediaCenter and then a minute or two passes --> everything else but the touchpad stopped from responding: no keyboard, no functions, not even the secondary option for the touchpad (the arrows) worked. Again, the fix is to take the battery out and put it back in. Nothing else works.

All the guys who have the diNovo mini malfunctioning, do you have Vista x64? I just thought it could be helpful to narrow the issue down to 64-bit version, in case everyone experiences the same thing. I have x64 and this is not the only problem I've stumbled upon with it.

I have a secondary (not sure what class) bluetooth dongle at home, I'll try that today if it would help.

SECOND ISSUE:

If and when this thing starts working, I'd also like to change some of the functions that the mini provides by default such as which web browser to use etc. For this you need to have Logitech SetPoint 4.6 or newer and preferably the ÜberInstall which allows you to alter all of the button functions independently http://www.mstar.net/users/rlowens/). I'm also having a problem with the SetPoint software not showing me the settings tab for my diNovo mini because of a software conflict or something. To help with this issue I've found a quick fix, I'll see if this works also today (http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/forums/in...6016&forumid=1):

STEP 1:
Save these steps in Word or Notepad and restart your computer. After it reboots, right click "my computer" and open up the "device manager"

STEP 2:
Find the 'keyboards' tab in the device manager tree. (Or mice if it's the mouse tab missing, or both if both tabs are missing, and do the same with each step, depending on your situation)

STEP 3:
Right click 'logitech HID keyboard' and choose 'properties' ..(it may be something different but it looks like that, and HAS to say logitech.. if it doesnt email me and i can send you the fix for that stupid problem as well)

STEP 4:
select 'update driver' (make sure it can check the internet for drivers as well.. and make sure you choose the 'automatically' option

STEP 5:
Let it search until its done.. be patient here.. took about 5 minutes for it to finish for me at least

STEP 6:
there is no step 6, thats it, done, voila, like that.

I'll post a new message after my experiments are done. This is overly frustrating, hopefully someone finds a permanent resolution.

Re: Known fault with Logitech DiNovo Mini with Vista

ok, used my dinovo mini for a bit longer last night browsing the net and discovered that I too have this problem of it effectively stalling and only the clickpad working. In this instance, none of the keys work at all. The only solution was to remove the battery and replace. I run Vista 32bit with all latest upgrades, setpoint 4.6 and the default vista driver for the dinovo mini.

Another thing I noted also was that prior to the keyboard locking up it was VERY laggy. I mean I'd type a web address in its entirity, and hit enter. Look at the screen after a few seconds and see that nothing had happened, move the mouse with the clickpad, reselect the current address in the address bar and hit backspace and all of a sudden bang, my address I typed previously would start to appear one character at a time! Very weird indeed!

Just read the forums on the logitech site... turns out they know about it and are going to do firmware updates in August by back to base shipping... wish I read that before I bought one last week!
