Extremely loud Pioneer Blu Ray Drive

I have a Pioneer BDC-S02 blu ray drive. It works fine with blu ray discs, but with regular dvd's it spins continuously at max speed. It is extremely loud, and is essentially not use-able.

My other components are Asus PK5-SE mobo, E6850, Asus 8600 GTS 256MB Zalman 500W. Is anyone else having this problem?

There seems to be no software solution. It is extremely disappointing after paying to get as silent a system as possible. Would there be any recourse to Pioneer for a replacement, as I'm sure it is a hardware problem

Re: Extremely loud Pioneer Blu Ray Drive

It's not a hardware problem with just that drive. I documented exactly the same in the review I did of one of those drives. Using drive quietening software will work for everything but burned DVD-R. I only tried it with AnyDVD. It's either a problem with the software combined with those drives or it's a firmware level problem with the drive itself.

It should be able to be rectified. Maybe Brad from Pioneer can look into it for us?

I have the Blu-ray and a DVD-R in my machine. The DVD-R works in silent mode for all media, the BDC-S02 does not for burned DVD-R only.

Cheers,

Arkay.

Re: Extremely loud Pioneer Blu Ray Drive

I purchased AnyDVD to get rid of region coding on Blu Ray discs. Is it also drive quieting software? I have the latest version of AnyDVD (the BluRay/HD DVD) version installed. Are there settings in the software I need to adjust? Do you mean play the DVD with AnyDVD, I didn't think it was a DVD player. Is there other DVD quieting software that could help.

I have already tried Brad at Pioneer, and he says there is no solution!! I really feel I should get a replacement if there is no solution. My 2004 Dell DVD drive is silent by comparison, this sounds like jumbo jet in the room

Re: Extremely loud Pioneer Blu Ray Drive

In the drives settings section of AnyDVD there is an option to use speed control, set it to slow & quiet and away you go.

Re: Extremely loud Pioneer Blu Ray Drive

Yep. You only need AnyDVD installed and set to quiet mode. Any playback software should then play it quietly. But. I cannot get this to work for DVD-R. Works fine with store purchased disks (either BD or DVD). Maybe it's an AnyDVD problem. It might be possible to dig up some info from their website or other user experiences. I haven't looked into it any further.

Cheers,

Arkay.

Re: Extremely loud Pioneer Blu Ray Drive

My drive is noisy on some store bought dvds as well but not on all of them for some reason.

Re: Extremely loud Pioneer Blu Ray Drive

I have adjusted the settings on AnyDVD to slow and quiet, with no change.

Extremely disappointing, but I will call Pioneer and push for a replacement. May try another DVD quietener first, but they seem to be very drive specific
