Yes, because you can use the MCE remote to "teach" the Harmony what signals to send. You may also be able to download MCE remote codes for the Harmony, so you might not even need to do the teaching stuff.

Thanks Guyc....I was looking to verify that mce codecs are there on logitech side as there is one remote at logitech which is meant only for MCE.....I understand you are using logitech remote to control MCE...

Thanks again...Prakash

Re: Does Logitech Harmony 520/525 control MCE also?

Hi,
The Logitech Harmony 520 is a good option for controlling a WinMCE HTPC. When you run through the online setup you can choose Media PC and then enter Microsoft as the Manufacturer and MCE2005 as the Model no. The Harmony software will automatically assign the buttons for you and allow to set up macros to do virtually any task you would like.

It even replaces the Compro remote that came with my TV card.

They are a good addition to any setup and my WAF has increased because of it.

Brett

Re: Does Logitech Harmony 520/525 control MCE also?

Yep it works fine with MCE, I just got a Harmony 520 and it is the best purchase I have made in a long time. You just have to plug it into your pc and go throught the web confiurator thingy and you don't even have to get it to learn codes.

Yep the Logitech database has MC codes in it - you just need in IR receiver to plug into your PC.

Currently works a treat for me.

I'm not sure about the on/off thing though.

Hi, I also have a Logitech 520 and I already have a typical standard IR receiver that came with my TV capture card. So will I be able to control MCE once I download the remote codes onto my Harmony remote ?

Re: Does Logitech Harmony 520/525 control MCE also?

Please consider the Logitech/Harmony 360 over the 520/525 models.
The 360 has extra buttons (4 more than 525/8 more than 520). It also has a 'green' button and another labeled Live TV. The 4 coloured buttons across the middle I use as Guide, Recorded TV, Green button and Live TV.

You need to get the Microsoft remote and receiver to use the logitech remotes - this is a good idea regardless of which all in one remote you go with.
The Logitech HAS the codes for MCE, you just need to load the correct 'device'.

How annoying ! So that means to use a remote with Windows Media Centre, I actually have to buy the MCE remote (+receiver), even if my Logitech already has the codes ?

My crappy KWorld TV Tuner card came with a remote sensor and remote, but it only works together with the bundled media centre software and not in Windows Media Centre. I'm annoyed by all this.

Re: Does Logitech Harmony 520/525 control MCE also?

You could try ebay for a receiver. I was in the same boat with my 2 tuner card remotes. If your get the receiver do yourself a favour and get the MS MCE keyboard. It's made life so much easier with it's dedicated mce buttons. People whinge about the thumbstick mouse on it but it's easy enough.

The MS receiver is notoriously difficult to get your hands on (it's discontinued). However the Hauppauge remote is almost a direct replacement.

DDH did a review on it here
