Open 1TB HDD casing

Guys,

I've been looking for a decent priced internal HDD which stores 1TB for my HTPC, however, have found that they're quite pricey.

....I noticed that Harris Technology in Sydney was having an online sale and picked up a Western Digital MyBook for a good price....cheaper anyway

I'm now trying to pry the case apart so I can put the HDD in my rig.

Wondering if anyone's had success with opening a Western Digital WD MyBook Essentail Edition 2 (WDH1U10000).

I've only been able to find stuff online for other models but this one....WD have done a great job in locking down the enclosures....I'm at a point now where I just want to hulk this damn thing open, but thought someone out there may have a more civil answer.

Re: Open 1TB HDD casing

after 2 days of poking and prodding parts of this enclosure to find a latches, clips, screws....I decided to bite the bullet and start crowbar-ing the thing....turns out that things are quite tightly fitted together

......after an hour of prying with my fingertips (and another 30 mins after that massaging my cuticles), I was eventually able to get the enclosure open. And looking inside, there are no other tricks to open it.

.......so basically for this enclosure, there are no clips, or catches or screw or whatever.....just brute force and alot of patience got it open.

Re: Open 1TB HDD casing

Getting the 1tb into the rig was the easy thing.....took out one of the 320 drives I had and replaced it with the HDD.....

I've got a silverstone case which can hold up to 6 drives, so really no issues with finding space to put it.

I'm thinking to leave the 320 in the rig...but with all of the cables all over the place inside, this may restrict air flow....
