Harmony Remote issues

Hi Everyone,

I just recently being having some trouble with my Harmony Remote.

Very spasmatically the remote would stop working for the MCE function, but would continue to work for the Plasma and AV.

I would have to reboot the MCE 2005 to get the funtions back working on the remote.

Has anyone had similar issues, or know how to solve it...

Re: Harmony Remote issues

Are you sure it's the Harmony remote? When the remote stops responding have you tried the MS remote (and does it work).

Since you have to reboot the PC it seems like it would more likey be a PC (or receiver) issue than a remote issue.

Re: Harmony Remote issues

Your right,

I'm thinking it's not the remote, because it was working with everything else.

When I kill the Media Centre process without rebooting (via keyboard) it also comes good for a little while, then will revert back.

Maybe is the IR receiver, is there anyway to check?????

Re: Harmony Remote issues

I get a similar thing in Vista - the receiver gives no indication that it's crashed (no log, no error message, still appears in device manager, etc.) execpt that the red light stops reacting to the remote. Unplugging & replugging the USB connecor for the receiver gets it going again.

No idea what causes it, but it happens more often if I try to use the remote keyboard, so I'm thinking it's some sort of bus flood.

Re: Harmony Remote issues

Interesting.

I'll give a shot the next time it happens.

It also seems to happen (don't think it's related, just coincidence) every time there's a dvd in the drive.

Not watching or doing anything with the DVD, it's just sitting in the drive...

Or it happens after I've finished watching a DVD through the Drive...

Re: Harmony Remote issues

It's something that never has happened to me, but I use a bluetooth keyboard which may be why it doesn't display this behaviour.

There was also a post about slow response times when using the IR receiver, and it turned out to be interference from the plasma TV causing it. You would be seeing a lot of LED flashing in the receiver if it's getting interference.

Try moving your receiver away from the plasma, maybe deeper into the cabinet and see if that helps the situation.

Re: Harmony Remote issues

I had the receiver stop accepting signals after resuming from suspend / standby.

Unplugging and replugging the receiver fixes it. One day it stopped happening ... go figure :-)

Re: Harmony Remote issues

Well... it's not the receiver. the TV single kept transmitting but I could access any menu functions either by Harmony remote MCE remote or via remote keyboard. (although the keyboard worked because I could move the mouse around) It's almost like it's frozen (except I can still watch the TV single) I have to kill the MCE process or reboot.

Any thoughts???
