New MCE Remote is Vista only?

I've just build up a PC for a friend using XP MCE. He's just gone and purchased a MCR remote and has one of the newer models with the small IR receiver and I can't seem to get it working under XP MCE. My older MCE remote works fine on the same PC and this new one works fine under my Vista Ultimate box.

I am assuming this new MCE remote is not backwards compatible with the old drivers but I can't seem to find any information on the net about this. Is there a XP driver available for this remote at all?

Re: New MCE Remote is Vista only?

I didn't even know there was a newer version out. Does it look the same as the old version?

Was it this version? (Non-Microsoft?)

I went to buy one recently and I was told that the new remotes are Vista ONLY. Microsoft doesnt make the old versions anymore so to get one you need to find somewhere that still has them in stock.

I got some from Aus PC Market

That's outrageous. So in a few months, if my remote would jump off a cliff, I need to reformat my PC

Re: New MCE Remote is Vista only?

I still can't any evidence of a "new remote" which is Vista only. Even Microsoft's own website only advertises one remote, and it's labeled "MCE2005 Remote". That can't be Vista only

I did read reviews of the new "Vista Remote" that Microsoft have yet to release, but none of these reviews hinted that it would be Vista only.

Re: New MCE Remote is Vista only?

Here is the one I brought a few weeks ago and I can't get it to run under XP or MCE 2005.

http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=583848

It keeps on asking for the driver for a SF+ Dongle when I insert the USB IR Receiver.

Yet I cam use the remote using the old 2005 IR Receiver just fine!

Most annoying.
