Cooling?

Hi guys, kind of a long winded post but i'll try to keep it short.
I recntly upgraded my cpu cooler to an Arctic cooling alpine 7 and it seems to be running around 10 degrees warmer.
I am running it in an origen x10 so height was an issue.
Also I wanted to make it quieter but havn't really acheived that either because the x10 has 60mm case at the rear which are quite noisy
Can anyone suggest what I should do purchase (maybe reinstall the stock cpu cooler) to get this thing running silent and cool. Done many searches but difficult to wade through all the info and also try to find somthong specific.
Before change the cpu was running at around 47 to 50 degrees now it is running around 57to 60
Any help would greatly appreciated!!!!!
Also planing to reinstall OS MCE 2005 and would like to get this sortd so I can start fresh.

Re: Cooling?

G,day

I would change back to the stock fan as long as it is quieter than the upgrade. Are the 60mm fan seated flat and square on the case . Also so check they are securely fitted. If so I would get them replaced.
Has the artic fan restricted air flow in the case . I have found on a couple occasions that the internal cabling from hdd and optical drives
can make a significant difference to temp.

Good Luck

Re: Cooling?

Maybe go back to the stock CPU & start experimenting with fan controllers, e.g. Zalman Fanmate. You can often find that you can get the fans down to quiet speeds & only sacrifice a degree or two.

Re: Cooling?

My CPU fan was a bit noisy so I swapped over to this Zalman one

http://www.zalman.co.kr/eng/product/...x=229&code=009

Its dead quiet as it it come with the fan speed controller and I put mine to the lowest RPM possible. Also its handy because it directs air backwards so case fans can be turned down too.

Re: Cooling?

There was a post that mentioned that setting the voltage of the 60mm fans to 5volts made them quiet. The problem with doing that is that they may not start if the voltage is a little under the 5v.

With the CPU fan, are you sure it's been installed correctly? If it's not seated properly, or it's not tightened enough on one of the points, it won't cool it down properly.

That's pretty much what the fan controllers do (except they progressively drop the voltage by adding resistance via a potentiomater/variable resistor) - probably a safer bet then re-wiring the fans outright & also allows you to raise the speed if need be.

Double checked that everything was seated properly.
So my next question is would it be worth trying thethe Zalman7700 before I go back to the stock cooler??
Also can anyon suggest noiseless or quiet 60mm fans if they exist
