Question Front LED/LCD clock?

I'm looking for something like this:

http://www.pccasegear.com.au/prod1795.htm

to put on the front of my PC. I don't have/don't want to by a fancy case. I really just need a CLOCK that will stay on even with the PC is asleep. Something for a 3.5 inch bay really, maybe USB powered?
I could always by a clock radio and rip out the inside bits.. but was really hoping for something more elegant.
I basically have a PC that sits ontop of the TV and miss having a clock!

Do you guys have ANY suggestions?

Will you see it from your reclining chair?

Re: Front LED/LCD clock?

I'm saying I'd like something 'similar' to that link I posted. About the same size as the usual VCR clock time, but for my HTPC (or PC as in my situation).

Re: Front LED/LCD clock?

You could have a look at the Silverstone MFP51 LCD screen.

It has a lot of capabilities, but I' m not sure if it works when the computer is off. You could check some reviews, or even email Silverstone.

Re: Front LED/LCD clock?

Yes, pretty much like that only I don't want it back lit (too bright). You know, just the look of a clock radio sort of thing and a clock only! I can't believe its soooo hard to find!

Re: Front LED/LCD clock?

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but....

This is the very thing I am after. I have searched everywhere with no joy.

My problem for anyone interested.

I installed my htpc but had to remove my dvd recorder to fit it in. I didnt realise how often I looked at the clock until it was gone.

I now need an lcd/vfd display that will show the time when the pc is off. I know I could buy a cheap digital clock and stick it on the front of the pc but thats not the point.

I've found loads of displays, with clock functions but none of them seem to indicate that they function when the pc is off. Does anyone have a display that would do this?

Re: Front LED/LCD clock?

Could you make something yourself ?
Hack a clock that runs on batteries or is USB powered.

Re: Front LED/LCD clock?

That thought had occured.

I was wondering if anyone with a silverstone or something similar knew if it would display a clock in standby/hibernate.

I've gone off on all sorts of tangents - PICAXE based clocks, ripping the clock out of a vcr but it seems that I must be a bit weird [well me and the OP ] in wanting a clock as I cant find any threads anywhere. I be happy to find a thread "how do you get the xyz123 display NOT to show the clock in hibernate"

My other half suggested buying a clock - women, tuh, they just dont understand. Unless I spend several hours reinventing the wheel its not worth doing.

Re: Front LED/LCD clock?

They should all still display something when they're in sleep/hibernate mode.... a least the VFD on my Fusion does. As far as I can recall it will also still display the time when it's turned off, provided it's still plugged in and the PSU is still sending power to the mobo.
