How to enter text via remote

Hi peeps, hope some one can help. I have not been able to enter text into MCE's search bar via my remote. For example when i want to enter the letter "B" i always get "22".

I am using an iMon IR receiver (set to MCE remote) with a Logitech 785 remote. So i would rather not buy a Microsft external receiver.

Perhaps someone knows the make and model number of a remote whose profile i can load into the 785

Any tips?...........

Oh yeah, while I'm here. Is it possible to browse through your music collection via folders as opposed to using MCE's search?

Cheers

Re: How to enter text via remote

I'm pretty sure you need the MS remote to get the triple-tap functionality for entering alpha characters. I also user a Harmony and the MS remote just sits there gathering dust.

But you can pick up the MS remote & receiver for under $40. It as the added advantage of making the whole wake-up/go-to-sleep setup actually work properly (I could never get that working with my Dvico receiver).

Re: How to enter text via remote

Thanks bella, sounds like just what i need. I tried to download, but the link timed out, so i will try again later.

Thanks Adrien, but i'm really tring to avoid another item hanging of the PC. i read in another thread that the microsoft remote works through the iMon, so i will follow that path for the time being. So, can I ask you what "profile" do you use in your logitech remote to control MCE. Maybe I can download it into my remote.

Cheers

krizo,

You could always place the M$ IR receiver inside your box (naturally depends on the case). This certainly works for me with a Silverstone LC20.

Re: How to enter text via remote

OK, here is a status report for anyone interested.

Downloaded Musical Folders. I recommend it to anyone, it makes life easier searching for music. Especially if you have music without ID tags. It takes patience to download the file, since the site must have some sort of bandwith restriction, but you will get in eventually. Note to people like me always download the latest version as it will save you a lot of grief
Did have one problem though, but since it is off topic i may start another thread on this.

Thanks dgaust, i loaded your mce remote model number into my logitech remote, but still no joy. Now that i have musical Folders, this little bug has moved down in priority. I may consider putting a M$ receiver in the box at a later date, but i would still be interested in hearing a solution that doesnt involve a new IR receiver. Anyone?

Thanks everyone for your help
