Laptop battery - in a desktop?

Hi all,

We've just had some building work done and as part of that we've had a new electrical consumer unit put in. Since then we've been having trouble with the residual current device tripping off all the time. Hopefully in due course it will get sorted but it did make me think that of course my laptop doesn't care it just instantaneously switches over to the battery whereas my desktop media center goes dead and has to be restarted. Can you install some kind of auxiliary power to keep it going for a few minutes while you go reset the switch?

Not sure if it's practical or not but just interested if anyone has done something like this. I guess the other answer is to use a laptop as your media center!

Thanks,

Richard
