Logitech MX-5000 Keyboard Won't Connect HELP!

Hi Guys

Bought a Logitech MX-5000 Keyboard Mouse Combi yesterday. The keybboard will not connect to my HPm7390a Media Centre.

I tried all the help avenues I can think of. Followed all the instructions carefully. In the Discovery process it recognises that the keyboard is there and briefly connects and asks for a Passkey number to be typed in. After typing in the passkey number it just repeats and repeats asking me to press the connect button and type in another passkey.

Logitech's support pages are down for maintenance at the moment.

Installed and Connected the MX-5000 to my other Windows XP system and everything worked OK - so the problem is not in the Keyboard or mouse but somewhere within the Media Centre System.

Any ideas would be appreciated.
Fruurated - once again!
Cheers
Paul

I could look this up on their website...is this a bluetooth keyboard combo?

Are you on Vista or MCE2005?

Re: Logitech MX-5000 Keyboard Won't Connect HELP!

Hi Windeath

Thanks for your offer of help. I ended up spending the afternoon fiddling and found a Logitetech Forum which gave me a few clues like "remove the dongle - reboot -reinsert the dongle into the stand holding down the 'connect' button" and "remove the batteries from the keyboard, leave it switched on - then spend 40 seconds typing - reinsert the batteries and try to connect."

And to think I thought Mr Gates was funny telling you to hit the start button to turn off the computer!!

Finally - in desperation I used control panel and removed anything that had Logitech on it and anything Widcomm and re-installed from scratch. I finally have it working.

I'll pack it all in cotton wool overnight and hope it works in the morning!

I seem to have never ending problems installing Logitech products!

Thanks again

Re: Logitech MX-5000 Keyboard Won't Connect HELP!

Hahahahaha good to hear.

I must confess I have had similar results with Logitech. I have the MX Revolution as my mouse and an EX110 as my keyboard. Luckily I had not one issue with either.

Re: Logitech MX-5000 Keyboard Won't Connect HELP!

what people sometimes miss when they get this type of kit is that you really dont need to install their bluetooth software(unless your are pre sp2).

logitechs software that comes with this kit is a bloaty mess

Ive had this kb/m combo and used to plug and play it across 2 pcs !! Once windows (auto) installs a driver for teh dongle - if it doesnt connect automatically its just a case of pressing the connect buttons on the devices very shortly after doing the same on the dongle

good luck.
