I know this is a silly thing to ask with a VFD on the front of the case but... anyone know of a s/w way to turn off the HDD light when playing recorded TV or a MyMovie ?
The reason... the VFD is nice a dim and a soothing green. The HDD light on the case is a very intense blue (pretty, but intense)
A lot of the time I like the re-assurance of an HDD light (I come from the days when it was comforting to watch the lights on the open-reel tape spools and disc pack drives that look like top-loading washing machines) but found myself ignoring the movie and watching the light last night !
I could always wire in a toggle switch to turn it off (and the power light) but that's getting awefully close to modding !
Easiest... and what I did as a temporary solution - as the light shines in and annoys the breast feed during the night (while I snore and stay asleeo....)
Blue Tack - easily removed, and stops light very well...
Ok - not ideal - but its a start! Never heard of a s/w solution as every motherboard config is probably different !

actually, sometimes the easiest solutions are the best !
My 6 year old daughter has actually suggested we put a pink filter over it... so currently a bit of paper is magic-taped onto the front of the case at the moment and it certainly softens the blue
smidgen of gaf tape, or better yet, pull the plug on the thing (not like you need a HDD light to tell if its working or not now do you )
Hey, I'm a belt-and-braces man ! just because I can hear the HDD spinning and see there's content appearing on the display, sometimes I like the reassurance
How 'bout a spud gun with bluetack pellets. You could just shoot the LED before a movie begins but will still have it in all it's glory for normal operation.
OK..OK...this may not be the best technical solution but man it sounds like a lot of fun eh?
... and when my daughter reaches for the remote to re-run Barbies enchanted whatever for the tenth time that day.... I can shoot her with it !
Multifunction devices finally come of age
The LC14M has little bits of plastic between the LED and the hole ( I assume most sivlerstone cases are the same ). I pulled the front panel off and just drew on the clear plastic with black texta. Dulls the brightness to a level where it is not dominating yet still there when you need that little bit of reasurance....

Keeping it there has probably saved me $000's since my skill level with that thing would quickly render almost any piece of computer equipment totally unusable!
