Hum - speakers, not PC !

Okay, new fun problem !

I've got a set of Altec Lansing VS3151R speakers which look good and sound great

But (why is there always a but) when everything is off they HUM. Specifically the sub hums. A low, penetrating tone that goes around the house and with every moment reduces the WAF.

My first though was a grounding issue where the speakers and the PC had a different ground potential so I'd need a filter between the two - but just to check I disconnected everything and the hum was still there.

I've even taken the sub into another room and plugged it in, and it still hums.

Any suggestions, or... is it back to the store to get them replaced ?

Re: Hum - speakers, not PC !

Hi OBM,

yes, I'd get them replaced, it's probably a slightly faulty transformer or something inside. I've seen a number of different brands of speakers do that. Altec Lansing are normally an excellent brand, but nothing is 100% perfect. If another set do the same thing, could be something weird going on, but I doubt that'll be the case.

Good luck.

Cheers
