Just to add a little to this incredibly useful post. I had problems programming a second MCE remote using these instructions - it would correctly go into program mode, but then I'd push the volume buttons and it would immediately flash 4 times indicating an unsuccessful program. This is despite not actually getting to the point of pushing the source remote's buttons.

Turns out that when you hold down the vol + or - key at this step, you need to wait for the backlight to go out before letting go of the key - then everything works perfectly.

Question ACER mceir-210 infrared remote control receiver

anybody knows what are the two small sockets near USB socket for ? They lool like mini audio /headphone sockets. They are labelled '1' and '2'.
this device came with my laptop and there is nothing about how to use it etc.

Are these on the MS USB receiver? If so they're the IR Emitter bud ports. They're used to control digital set top boxes if you use them.
