Re: Programming Your Microsoft MCE Remote Control

On the subject of the MCE Remote Keyboard, I would like to thank those who provided the useful information.
It is not really on the subject, but I can not get the thumb knob to move the curser. The receiver shows that it is receiving a signal, but the curser just stays where it is.

Any ideas. Maybe a faulty keyboard.

Kevin.

Re: Programming Your Microsoft MCE Remote Control

This thumb knob is a bit of a pain as you need to press down on it and then you move it. It does get better with age. Mine is now easier to use then when it first arrived.

Re: Programming Your Microsoft MCE Remote Control

The older remote was so much better as far as functionality was concerned. It had a My Videos Button, My Music, My Photos, My TV. Much better than the crappy options on the remote we have here in Aus. I still use my old remote.
The one good feature on the Aus remotes is the ability to learn. Would be nice if it had one button to turn the AMP on and off as well as the TV Then I could ditch the amp remote too.

teletext? What a waste of time. An option to reprogram them and use them as hotkeys would have been a much nicer idea

Ohh well, maybe next revision..

to get the mouse option working for the keyboard you will need the rollup updates from microsoft.

Re: Programming Your Microsoft MCE Remote Control

1. Press I + OK. The status light on the top of the keyboard begins blinking Thats the weird "i" button not the "i" between "U" and "O"
2. press the back key (<-)
The status light on the top of the keyboard blinks twice to confirm that the commands have been reset.

From page 4 of the "Getting Started" booklet with the remote keyboard.

Exclamation Back Button... only one not working!

Hey all,
A bit off topic I know.
I have MCE 2005 and all the bells and Whistles... but my Back button on my MCE remote doesn't work! It seems the command flashes up on screen (you see a small window appear which has "back" in it) but it doesn't actually do the back function. On a keyboard, the backspace key works as the back button should...

Help me obi-wan kenobi...

Just to add a little to this incredibly useful post. I had problems programming a second MCE remote using these instructions - it would correctly go into program mode, but then I'd push the volume buttons and it would immediately flash 4 times indicating an unsuccessful program. This is despite not actually getting to the point of pushing the source remote's buttons.

Turns out that when you hold down the vol + or - key at this step, you need to wait for the backlight to go out before letting go of the key - then everything works perfectly.

Re: Programming Your Microsoft MCE Remote Control

Are these on the MS USB receiver? If so they're the IR Emitter bud ports. They're used to control digital set top boxes if you use them.

MCE Remote Manual pdf
Here is a manual for anyone who hasn't got one.
There is a brief explanation about the IR emitter buds.
