Re: Programming Your Microsoft MCE Remote Control

AshW my menus started working today!! I've changed the pc a lot since last trying, namely with a new Nvidia 6600GT card and associated drivers (From ATI 9550 and catalyst drivers). Perhaps they were doing something?? Other than that I'm at a loss as to why it's now working (but grateful it does)

Re: Programming Your Microsoft MCE Remote Control

Teletext doesn't work either

I'm using the PowerDVD codec. I figured that it may be a codec issue and was planning on trying another one. I might try a re-install and see if it fixes the problem.

Re: Programming Your Microsoft MCE Remote Control

Yes it could be a decoder problem as this is also one of the things I changed as I now use the nvidia codec. Good luck.

Re: Programming Your Microsoft MCE Remote Control

I've had the same problem guys and I've traced it back to the PowerDVD codec - the problem doesnt occur with the nVidia one.

If you are using PowerDVD 6, try starting the DVD and then return back to the DVD's main menu. If found that this sometimes causes the highlighting to appear.

Harnessing the full power of this remote (including these buttons) requires a little tinkering.

Re: Programming Your Microsoft MCE Remote Control

The only documentation is what is available in the faq listed above. If you want to just teach the volume controls, I believe there is a way to teach these directly to the remote....

Re: Programming Your Microsoft MCE Remote Control

does anyone know how to setup this feature

Remote can also learn from your existing TV remote to switch TV on/off and control volume by putting it head-to-head

Question Re: Programming Your Microsoft MCE Remote Control

I'm having problems with my mce remote. I programmed the power button using the instructions at the beginning of this post. Got the 2 flashes to confirm the acceptance of the other remote signal. This does not work when trying to power the tv. I thne tried to program the volume up button - again I got the 2 flashes and yet again it does not work plus the fact that I have lost the use of the volume up for Media Centre. So g out then I decided to reset and what do you know - all I get is 4 flashes (to indicate it failed) no matter how many times I try. I have tried taking out the batteries overnight to see if this would reset but to no avail - anyone got any suggestions???

Re: Programming Your Microsoft MCE Remote Control

Check the downloads section of this site. There is a copy of the manual that comes with the remote. This should help you.

I asked Mike to post post this manual for this very reason.

Unhappy Re: Programming Your Microsoft MCE Remote Control

The instructions provided at the beginning of this thread are taken from the manual that you speak of. I did download the manual and that is what I used as a reference when programming the remote initially. Does anyone know of any other way of reseting the remote?
Found a solution to my problem. I tried several remotes with their respective remotes to see if it was a specific equipment issue, i.e. my tv remote using some weird IR settings. I had no luck with any of them i.e. they all blinked twice to indicate that they had been programmed correctly, but would not work when pointed at the HiFi equipment.

The reset via the dvd/left navigate then ok button would still not reset itself i.e. persistently gave 4 quick blinks.

The issue was solved by putting new batteries in the unit - this allowed the reset to work as well as the programming of the tv power, vol+ and vol- buttons.

It seems that this remote has some issues with batteries and loses it's reliability when battery power goes below a certain point.

I put back the older batteries and the learned commands were retained.
