Re: Origen AE - USB to VGA converter

I Don't think this will solve the problems relating to rescaling the desktop and allowing cloning at different resolutions.

Re: Origen AE - USB to VGA converter

Thats a completely different device for a completely different purpose - so just ignore that link by extremepc - he does not know what he is talking about....

Much criticism about Origen on this one.... the product appears to be vaporware, and no hardware solution appears to exist. Most people are appearing to be satisfied by using the MCE Hotkey utility and mapping a button on their MCE remote to switch resolutions so that they can swap between their TV and the LCD screen on the case.

Personally I think its a workaround - but an awkward one - and just damn annoying... and I feel like many others that Origen have somewhat abandoned everyone.

What was showing as a nice idea, just fails a little in its implementation - as such.

Origen are now saying that you would not want higher resolutions on that 7" monitor because it would mean all the buttons would scale too small - to me its just sounding like a poor excuse.

And of course Origen are now pushing their 12" LCD monitor case to solve the problem, in that you can display a higher resolution on this larger screen... but to me the case looks ugly - being just about a full monitor.

More info and comments etc can be found on their forum over at http://www.origenae.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=1

(Even with Vista it looks like your still limited to extended desktop too! So no cigars all round)

Re: Origen AE - USB to VGA converter

I have been able to use the ATi software to switch displays but it keeps asking if I want to keep the new settings which is a pain as you said.

What is the MCE Hotkey Utility you mentioned? I have not noticed this anywhere.

Thanks for your replys.

Read this thread http://www.origenae.com/forum/viewto...er=asc&start=0 for full details.... and the program details can be found at http://mcehotkey.free.fr/indexen.html

Its a solution - but I'd like to see a 7" wide screen panel that had a touch screen that could scale thankyou.... even if it cost another $100-$200... Hmmm wonder if sucha beast exists and you could buy the x15 case without monitor and just do it all yourself.....

Go *** yourself impact.

EDIT: Cut the swearing. Not apprecated, even to respond to such a harsh taunt.

Re: Origen AE - USB to VGA converter

Hi Impact

I downloaded mcehotkeys and got it all working apart from one big problem.

When in windows and I use the hotkey I setup up in the ATI software it changes over but asks if I want to keep the settings otherwise it changes back. In windows I can answer yes but when MCE is running I can't so it changes over and then changes back after 10 seconds or so.

Do you know a way around this? Would I be better using Powerstrip in conjunction with mceHotKeys? I have seen this program as an alternative to the video driver software.

What do you think?

Regards
Warren

Re: Origen AE - USB to VGA converter

Cant really help you Warren - I dont own an origen case - I want one, but not prepared to buy one and be disapointed with the lcd panel problems.... So I just monitor the threads in the hope that the ultimate solution can eventually be found.

Id suggest posting in the forums in the link above - your more likely to get an answer from those who have and play around with it....

BTW - The Silverston LC18 case which also has a touch screen LCD display appears to be better spec'd - it can do 1600 * 1024 - ( http://www.silverstonetek.com/products-lc18.htm ) but I think its uglier than the origen case... And it does fall short on the resolution - not going to be happy until 1920 * 1080 which is the native resolution of the high spec Sharp Aquos LCD screens...

One day maybe....

(Thanks for the nice comments ExtremePC - I probably would if I could.... but that would just make you jealous!)
