Sound cards

One more Q.....

Which of the following would you go for (ignoring cost):

Sound Blaster LIVE 5.1
Creative Audigy 4
Creative X-Fi Xtreme Music

I was told that Sound Blaster LIVE is a basic card, Unless you are planning to USE digital OUT (Audigy 4 & X-Fi) from PC to your AMP, then you rather just use your home AMP & SPEAKER setup.

Is this right?

Which of the cards above would be the better card for home use?

Hi Peter.

I upgraded from a LIVE to an Audigy 2 ZS. The former is 16bit and the latter is 24bit.

I believe that you need 24bit for CD audio quality.

Running both in a test against my HiFi CD player into the same stereo amplifier proved to me that the 24bit sound is much better than the 16bit.

What I was after was superior quality HiFi stereo audio, not surround sound.

What are you after?

I can't comment on the other card, nor on a comparison to SPDIF (digital out).

I hope this helps a little.

Cheers, Banjo
